Well, I'm almost caught up to where you left off. Your printer seems to differentiate the colors in the fuselage better than mine, but all in all it looks pretty good. I also scaled the thing down 50% so that might have added to mixed edges. Everything lines up and it went together easy enough. I of course used my favorite method of joining cones - internal centering tabs and edge gluing.

Shall we discuss copyright royalties? Heh, just kidding. I designed and built this prototype in plastic about five years ago, copyrighted it, then found none of the model companies wanted it.

Hah, that's awesome. You know it's funny, I was just reading another thread (like 10 mins ago) and saw that avatar of yours and thought it looked like an A-10, but couldn't tell at the scale. I was wondering if it was possible to see a larger version. PM is psychic it seems!

Slightly better shot. Looking forward to the paper model. My friend Possm(who loves the A-10)is gonna freak. Oh, Yeah the tail number is BR549. The old timers will get it.

Junior Sample!!

The number is BR 549 folks. That's right, come in today......(kicks car)

I loved that show! The skits were usually side-splitters. The cornfield, barbershop, fence, used car lot......ah memories.

Glooom, despaaair and agony on me;
Deep dark depression, excessive miserrry.
If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all;
Glooom, despaaair and agony on meeeeee.

:D:D

Oh, right. The show was "Hee-haw!".

Great model, Lep. Got any more pics?

Ok, got a decent amount more done. Wings, tails, and one engine. Ran into a couple snags that were either easy to overcome to get the build, or just cosmetic things, detailed below. All in all its going well me-thinks.

The main wings were very straight forward and I built them using my tried-and-true internal tab-guided edge gluing. The first snag was the wing tip. It starts off as an L shape, but the inner edges that glue together to become the tip are not the same length:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/cmags/cardmodels/A10/IMGP2685.jpg

So I trimmed from the tip at an angle out to the trailing edge, which allowed me to curl that section over to meet up with the bottom:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/cmags/cardmodels/A10/IMGP2690.jpg

The other (minor) wing tip issue was that the inner edge didn't form a nice straight connection with the wing itself due to a sharp edge, which was easily trimmed:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/cmags/cardmodels/A10/IMGP2687.jpg

Resulting in a nice clean wing:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/cmags/cardmodels/A10/IMGP2688.jpg

Next I did the other wing (saw the same issues so they were easily overcome), the horiz and vert stabilizers, and engine:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/cmags/cardmodels/A10/IMGP2713.jpg

The next issue is the engine exhaust. The colors fade from brown to a light tan, only to meet up again at the joint to form a hard line of color which doesn't seem right. Add to the fact that not all three rings join at the same spot, so you get an odd looking paint job:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/cmags/cardmodels/A10/IMGP2714.jpg

Then we assemble the engine only to find that this joint needs to be facing up to get the right lines so the color edges become all the more obvious.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/cmags/cardmodels/A10/IMG_8626.jpg
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/cmags/cardmodels/A10/IMG_8627.jpg

Again, not a huge issue, and not difficult to correct (the color anyway, the orientation of the split I'm not sure). And it looks fine from the side. But there it is anyway. As a beta I figured Trent would be happy for the nit-picks.

The plane is almost there. The weapons on the other hand, may take some time. I'll try to build a couple quick, but They're pretty straight forward and I'm sure the model will be releasable without a detailed beta of the ordinance.

Since this is a caricature of a real plane, why not give it one of the silly looking J.A.W.S. schemes? Those spots would look natural on this one.

Got all the big pieces done, and assembled. All that's left are the little antennae and pod, and the weapons.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/cmags/cardmodels/A10/IMG_8791.jpg

This build has taken me a bit longer than expected. I think I may set it aside for a while to work on a a couple other things, but I don't foresee any issues with the weapons. I'd say that the two minor issues that I mentioned in my previous post would be the only things to touch up and this model is ready for release.

Let me know if you need anything else Trent. Great work!

Well, heres what I ended up with...

http://www.papermodelers.com/gallery/data/675/A-10_toon_1.jpg

http://www.papermodelers.com/gallery/data/675/A-10_toon_2.jpg

As you can see, made a few changes to the model in colour and markings.
I found a few parts a little tricky, mainly the build and attachment of the wing components
...as was indicated before, the wing parts need a bit of tweaking to get them together (my build skills are not as good as cmags!)
but I also had difficulty attaching the assembled wings to plane.

http://www.papermodelers.com/gallery/data/675/A-10_toon_3.jpg

Since there are no real instructions, and its a cartoon version of this aircraft, there is no real indication of where the wings should attach.
I ended up finding a good visual location and then I used wooden dowels (through the fuselage) to position and support the front and rear wings.

Most obvious changes I made are to colour (I found the original a little too "dirty" and I decided to lose the shark jaws) and I also created a whole new gattling gun. (Some of the A-10s have chromed guns, so I went with that)

http://www.papermodelers.com/gallery/data/675/A-10_toon_5.jpg

I also created a "saddle" to attach the engine pods to the fuselage. Once again, there is no indication of exactly where to attach the engines and I just couldn't get the support piece to sit properly or hold long enough to support the oversized engine. My little saddle, attaches the two wings together (with tabs inside the support pylons) and then hangs the entire engine structure on the back of the fuselage. It was very quick and easy to install. I just wish I had thought of it while printing the model pages...then I could have created it with the same printed colours. (I used art markers to colour some cardstock instead)

http://www.papermodelers.com/gallery/data/675/A-10_toon_4.jpg

Yes! the engine exhaust ducts are upside down!...I forgot to repair the colouring error on these ducts before printing, but I also found that when installed correctly, the paper seams are showing at the top. I didn't like this idea, so I just turned the ducts over and installed them with the better colour side showing and no seam! hey...its a cartoon right? everything else is whacky, so why not have the engine ducts angle down instead of up? lol

I upscaled my "funny" A-10 about 25% from Nothing's original.

It's now about 9" long, 9" wingspan.
Not sure how that relates to "scale" since it is caricature distorted!

This is Nothing's kit...he gave me a beta version to work with.
I have no idea if he has gone any further with this model
or if he plans to distribute it (in any fashion).

I also have no idea if Chris is even interested in this type of model for the store...thats all between him and Nothing.

My repaint is full of flaws and would require much tweaking and modification.

If Nothing did decide to release this model and asked that I offer up a repaint version, I might consider it...

but for now...I can't offer up anything, sorry.

your cartoon is pretty cool...a lot more than my little doodles.
and your idea (make a model from a cartoon) is cool too.

and thats the coincidence...
a few days ago, I was doodling on a scratch pad

so it hit me....

Thanks for the kind words, Dave. I also have some cartoons of other planes I have flown...the Lear 35, Shorts 360, and my Pitts Special. They would all make interesting models and would lighten up my collection of historic aircraft a bit. If I get a little better at all this cutting, folding and gluing, I just might give design work a try. That's a pretty good sketch of the P47!

ecardmodelers . com does have the A-10, a P-47x, and Predator drone, but no P-51. I have been looking at imagines using various search engines, but it is a long, time consuming process that often doesn't show much. The "egg" planes are still produced in plastic, but can be a tad expensive. I have seen some very interesting caricatures in paper in the past, but it may be a while before I find them again, let alone a plan to print for construction. Tried to sign up for the Printerest page, but no luck.

Have been a fan of the cartoon and others like it for near a year. Also found a few others, like "Path of Hate", or something like that. A serious theme, but not using aircraft caricatures. I suspect many here are aware of the Disney cartoon movie "Planes" that is suppose to come to theaters next month. It is a spin from their "Cars" cartoons that have been very popular.

My current project is making a caricature of a FW 190 using foam cups as the source material, rather than card stock. Have seen a number of drawings and examples of what a paper-craft cartoon FW 190 can look like. Providing a number of options for design. Haven't found a caricature plan to follow, so I have had to sort of "wing it". I enlarged a print of the FW 190 plan from Fiddlersgreen for ideas. Cut out wedges in foam to shape, but it might have been faster to use sheet foam.

I have a small collection of the larger foam drink cups, so the material hasn't cost me anything to experiment. I probably should start a thread on this project for others to copy or get ideas from. Working with thin foam is a little different then card stock, but results in a very lightweight model that can be a glider or a RC flyer. I will likely use an enlarged pattern to make a RC park flyer at some point in the future. I'm a big fan of a guy (Korean?) I found on Youtube that makes caricatures of all sorts of aircraft as an RC flyer project.
