Either you have a new macro lens and practicing zooming in on objects or your are teasing us with the microfibers of the paper structure. Zoom out and lets see what you got.

The only P-51 with that combination of colors that I can think of is the racer, Dago Red (N541OV), but the parts you are letting us see don't seem to quite match up with the airplane.

A Tuskegee repaint? Wait, they flew Bs and Cs, didn't they? Did the get the D later?

Has to be it. One shot looks like "Stark" is on the side and another shot looks like it says "Industries"

Maybe Tony Stark entered into the Reno Air Races. HAHA!

So, was this the inspiration? Chaos's Iron Man Blog (http://chaosmarvelblog.blogspot.com/)

Because of the huge gaps in my knowledge (like, not knowing from Iron Man), I spent hours looking at photos of every National Air Race and Reno P-51 racer in a fruitless search for an airplane that exists in THIS universe.

WW2? alternate reality?
someone living today, in our reality, couldn't own a P-51 Mustang?
or paint it to fit into their "Hot Rod" collection?

...how else would Tony Stark paint his very own Mustang?

okay, enough's enough!
I finally got this fantasy plane finished.

Running out of ink half way through and then getting sidetracked with B24s, ACES P51s, HOT Wheels and now P-47s!!!
Its a wonder I ever got back to this thing.

I was hoping to unveil it for the premiere of IRONMAN 2
(can you tell I'm a fan?)
but I didn't quite make it!

Anyway, here it is, my final entry for the FG contest.
My P-51D "Stark Industries Flyer"
If Tony Stark was to add another "hot rod" to his collection, I'm sure it would be the "hot rod of the skies".
And of course it would have to be painted in the recognizable colours!

I just caught this thread at the end. But if I was able to guess what it was earlier, I would have suggested a Flash Gordon Racer due to the retro designs and colors (and also just to tease Airdave).

Great build there Dave! I like the profile of Tony Stark in the cockpit. Reminds me of those tin toys.
