View Full Version : Chibi tanks

pantherbug2

I admired Ton's cute tanks so much.
Sadly he's focusing on Axis machines... so I started developping my own line of deformed paper models.

Still scratching my hair to decide the right way to release the all thing.
Fighting machines and buildings... everything to play with.

- Hullo...Hullo... I have to talk to Monty NOW.
- ...
- What? ... Lunch time?
- ...
- Okay, okay... then, I have to go and meet PATTON. The situation requires action!

On the field...

- Kitty, kitty, kitty...
- Ssssht, stop it, Jock!
- That yank is chewing all the time, it pulls on y nerves, sergent.
- He's from the South. Mind your PIAT, soldier.

I was considering to develop Amtrack and Matilda Tank next...
Churchill and M113 are also great basis for countless special vehicles.

Does anybody has a great idea about a model never released as chibi/deformed vehicle?

Leopard or the Scorpion tank.

Tim Crowe
07-11-2010, 09:09 AM
I would suggest a German A7V - But I think it's pretty much half way there already!

So how about a British mark 1 or a French Renault 17

my favorite, if you were to do APC, the LAV-25

pantherbug2
07-14-2010, 10:05 AM
Thanks to those who send me excellent ideas.

Surprisingly, it seems that some had enough of WWII and do wish something else.

About Scorpion... Good idea. I will start it as soon as possible. That's a deal.

Searching for interesting vehicles, I've found something "different" wich could become an hilarious papercraft to please both modelers and gamers... Lockheed XM808 Twister. It has a flavour of some Gerry Anderson extravaganza but it is truly authentic. THIS is going to be fun!

rickstef
07-14-2010, 10:11 AM
that Twister is asking for a proper scale build too

not just in chibi mode

I have uploaded a blank super deformed Sherman model in download section (cartoon)... Aply your prefered paint scheme to it, and show us your creation!

Should work fine with axis armor out of Tonton's kat army series

I had to give a try to Tonton's SD aircraft to complete my army with a fighter to cover the tanks. Here's the link:

http://www.wa.commufa.jp/~ton/pc7/index.html (http://www.wa.commufa.jp/%7Eton/pc7/index.html)

The ME109 is hilarious but - surprisingly - This Tonton model is somewhat demanding to build, because the fuselage is unfold as one part wich is quite complex to roll'n fold without ruining the model... Watch the pdo file long long time. The fuselage has to receive precice crease for every fold to be shaped and glued properly. There are no dotted lines on the paper model. Must figure out. Plus not really rigid, as there are cutouts for tail and wings to be inserted into that "floating volume". No structure nor stiffener but not needed.

Must stay relaxed to make it. Fortunately, the model is rewarding. I've even upgraded it with a cockpit, transparent hood, exhaust pipes, new undercarriage, new propeller, airbrush retouching on colour...

For legal reasons, the swastika is not there... For those willing to avoid nazi symbols, please remember there are many exotic schemes for 109... They have been used in Switzerland, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary... Many possible beautiful colors.

After so many useless comments... Here's Unteroffizier Wolfgang Kartoffel aircraft!

Very nice!!! The models looks very good. Thanks for the advice in the build.

One question: Are the tanks from the same site?

pantherbug2

More than one modeler has shown interest for IAV/LAV...
In case of emergency, a nice series is available on paper tiger armamant.

LAVseries (http://www.papertigerarmaments.com/LAVseries.html)

On the other hand the general shape is not especially difficult. For now I'm quite busy with both my job and papermodel projects already being on my desktop. Could some fellow give a try on designing one? Something like a shoe box on wheels with a pointed nose... no offense to General Dynamics.

Uyraell
07-18-2011, 02:16 PM
General Dynamics can take no offense, I'd think. After all, the hull shape of the IAV/LAV is nothing more that the Sdkfz 251D bodywork on the Sdkfz 234 underhull.
Hardly what could be described as revolutionary design.

I could not see your M113 and AIFV in the cartoon section of the downloads, though I did locate the Sherman. I hope the APCs become available soon.
As for Chibi vehicles not so far modelled: Ram Kangaroo, Priest Kangaroo, Staghound Armoured Car, T34, T28, T35, KV1, Marder IFV, IS3, Btr50, PT76, Bmr3, Bmp3, Panhard AML, ARL44. Those are some that have not yet been chibi'ed, so far as I know.

Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell.

One very neat chibi Scorpion.
I like it a lot. It is delightful to see this one, because it extends the concept beyond what has come to be accepted as the usual, in chibi tanks.
Congratulations on a very well done kit.

Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell.

Inverting type means that a fun java script has been found, but an inverted flag indicates that your Scorpion is in distress.:)

pantherbug2
07-26-2011, 12:12 PM
Thanks to Looker informative post, the flag is now like this.

In fact it was not the flag upside down it was the mast wich was the wrong side. Because I'm left handed. I sware. Not my right, your right, all right, that's right. Now here's the pics of the corrected model. Right away... huuuh...

I promise that before I put an american flag on some armor, I'll call an expert to know the right place of every single star. Oh my. Have to check how many they were in Civil war, in WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Kuwait.... and avoid to misplace some. Sight. I guess Lav 25 enthousiasts will have to wait.

This time LVT-1(Landing Tracked Vehicle)... This glorious "One" is hard to find in modelling world, everybody focus on LVT-2 and LVT-4 Water Buffalo and their turreted versions LVT(A)1 and 4.

For some reason LVT-3 "Bushmaster" is also totally forgotten.

pantherbug2
08-07-2011, 09:41 AM
This was first build (see picts previous post). Minor flaws has been found and will be corrected quickly to have the definitive model. However it proved more tricky to design and assemble than planned, because inside and outside are both visible and must fit together precisely. If I can prepare some instruction sheet the model may come in download area someday.

The assembly require some patience.
You've been warned. :)

The main issue with the Maus as super Deformed... Well... it's just too easy. Any one who can draw a developped cube or 3d Rectangle should understand what I mean. But any designer is welcome to play with us and help grow the collection.

As I needed to relax, I have designed a quickie... OK. There are five sides to the turret. Nothing to die.

I did my best to keep the model easy. This should be a little model with no trick.

And vintage era for a change.

Enjoy!

One more thing. As huge site Deviantart hosts a growing community of papermodelers, I have uploaded the model over there in order to watch if how it goes. Wait and see.

Thanks for many supportive comments.

I know you guys are waiting eagerly for some models. Simply, I have been so often stuck on a project because no assembly instruction was given by the designer. After this bad experience, I feel the urge to make some schematic about how to put things together.

Just respecting the modelers.

Now we have something else... A WW1 German armored car. It has really a flavour of Kaiser war machine.

Once again, It is released on Deviantart site.

Now something else.
I've been grinding on this model design for a long time.

This articulated bug wasn't easy to handle.
Even more boldly, with the big articulated fork on my desk, I wanted to make the articulation work with some paper roll as axes.
After several attempts, the beta model is assembled and go on the field for first roll.

Few mistakes still to deal with, but all in all... it works!

Well,as it is quite good looking, I can't call this "chibi"... but it is not an accurate scale model.
