I had lost the bubble on this build, Tim, and am glad to have rediscovered the thread. I see you continue to do your usual superb work. Thanks much for the details on the track links.

The kit makes no attempt to replicate the trailing-arm suspension of the T-34

All we are left with is a box-section in card to butt mount the wheels to. Also I am always a bit worried about lining all the road wheel up and making the mounting points strong enough so they don't sag.

I used cock-tail sticks as axles, and ran these through to box-sections and glued them to the tank underside. This should help keep the axles parallel and all the same level.

Next I rolled some card strips up and have used them to locate the axles more firmly.

Starting to look like a tank now!

Tim

I've got a couple of these kits floating around somewhere. I think MM did at least four or five versions over the years. The tracks have always kept me away from them, so I'm especially keen to see how you deal with them and if you do find some form of a jig for them, please post a pick of it?
As always, your skills shine throughout, and I really like your technique for beefing up and aligning the road wheel suspension. Looking forward to more of this one!

That is one strong undercarriage, Tim. And the superstructure really looks good!

Made a jig to help build the track links:

This should help achieve some consistancy between the links.

The links are really awkward to join together, and some trimming is required. I don't think they will stand a lot of handling.

10 done only 120 left to do. Planning on doing 10 a day.

I like the jig.

What will hold the pins in?

Don't see why the pins have to be located - on the original T-34 the pins had
a mushroom end on the inside of the track and the pin could move around. There was a little ramp shaped piece mounted on the hull that bashed any pins that had come loose back into place as the track moved past it.

Regards,

Charlie

Don, there's enough friction to hold the pins in place without glue.

Will probably replace the pins with wire.

Also think the hinges need a bit of super-glue on them to stiffen them up a bit.

I really am enjoying your build of this beautiful tank, Tim. Keep up the good work. And keep this in mind when you start to get burned out with the tracks...The way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.
Before you know it you'll be on to your next build.
