Sherman M4A1
This is my first tank build, it's a Sherman M4A1 miniature.
Quite easy to build but I still managed to mess up some parts... Anyway, here are some pics... |

Nice work. Looks like one of Y's tanks. I have yet to complete a satisfactory build of this cast-turret Sherman, but hope to do so one day. Your build is an inspiration to do so.

usually see the easier to build welded hull m4, nice to see a cast hull!

Thanks Don and Charles, there were many mistakes and the left side came out a little warped... not easy for a amatuer builder like me. Well, it was a learning experience... will continue to learn and build until I can reach some of the levels that most of you guys are at!
Till then... it's back to the grindstone! |

Y's tanks are very well designed, but they have their challenges, especially the compound curves of the Sherman cast turret. And, of course, they are small!
Have you tried BestPaperModel's line of 1/87 military vehicles? Also small, but not difficult to build; simplified running gear, but the beautiful art work tricks the eye. Tank paper model, Military papercraft | Bestpapermodels.com Don |

Thanks Don, I have looked at it but I think I'll try some other free stuff that has compound curves and circular parts until I'm satisfied that I can do those reasonably well... then, I'll buy a model to build.
I have problems cutting curvature and small circles that my circle cutter and hole punches cannot cut. That's like between 6mm to 10mm circles! And most small/miniature models have circles that size! Cutting curves takes practice and that's what I'll have to do, no two ways about that! |

Don't feel bad! I tried my had at designing a WW1 British tank years ago, thing was a total disaster!
