Holt Steam Wheeled Tank (1/43)

Under circumstances (again), little more than two years I had no possibility for modeling. Now I will be trying to return to paper. I remember, that my previous project suspended at the half way to finish, but after long delay, I wanted to get easier prototype.

I choose the Steam Wheeled Tank: I found information about it at landships.info and the color blueprint at wardrawings.be.

But the model became as not easy as that.
By first, it has simple hull, but complicated wheels.
By second, looking at the single known photo, I decided to make two corrections for the blueprint. My version is little shorter and the hull’s bottom has a slope at its back.

I could not understand the back roller design, so this unit may be incorrect. In addition, it seems to be weak, but I had no other ideas about it.

Maybe, the next modeler will make next changes (or will correct my mistakes).

Main wheels – the most complicated units in this model. The set will contain two versions: the first represents the real wheels and the second is easier for assembling.

I made the first version, with cut off holes and added lugs.
So, here is a result:

What a beautifully ugly project - I love it!
And the back roller looks close enough, at least to me.

Thumbs up!

... and the lack of more information means that no one will be able to fault your ideas.
Excellent.

Dear AVR:
Welcome back, looks like a farm tractor going in reverse again one of your lots and lots of rivets models. Very interesting,
Miles

A beautiful model, and a brilliant design.

Sorry work had been keeping me away. Another 11 days until retirement. And you're right I love it. Have to dig through my stuff to see if I can find any references to it. The Heidrich Farm Museum outside Sacramento, CA has several of the Holt WW1 armored crawlers and tow tractors, but didn't even see any reference to this one.

Steel wheels and rivets, doesn't get much better. Great work.

I think the steam wheel tank was a collaboration between the Ordnance Dept and Holt in a similar way to the WW1 Holt SPGs (see Landships II).

I'll put my hand up to host the model on Landships II (landships.info).

Regards,

Charlie
