Mały Modelarz "Chi-He" build
Hi I haven't been on here for ever but I've realized recently how much model building relaxes me. So I started this Chi-He. A little way along and rusty but hope you enjoy the build.

looks great so far. touch up the edges, some white showing thru. in the case of armour you can touch the edges up with a graphite pencil to give the look of scraped paint from wear and tear.

Thanks for the tip. You read my mind I'm frustrated with the edges myself any other tips for edge painting. I'm all ears I think it's one area where I can really improve and make those models look great. Thanks

there is a perennial tread going on right now about edge coloring. I use the neocolors like don boose suggest, in the way he suggests, they tend to dry flatter than some of the other methods. with edges some people go overboard with matching exact colors. for most darker camo type things, planes trains tanks use a grey color a little lighter than the lightest color. if you match colors use a lighter shade of the parent color. grey kinda goes with everything if in doubt. you model looks great and you are doing a great job.

For edge painting, I also use masking tape because my hands are not that steady sometimes, one piece on each side of the edge to be colored.
Line up that light green painters tape or the the glued edge of a post-it bend it and paint the edge...no paint on the outside of the part. Practice on a scrap of the same card stock to make sure what ever you are using for color doesn't bleed in to the paper. The mask is reusable, for a while. You may notice some brush strokes on the mask ing paper, that's where it belongs, not on the model! With straight lines I use a half sheet cutter and do the folding and coloring before assembly, but you can probably still cut some masking tape and still paint the edges after assembly. Cheers, Bob |
