All good advice, and I thank all of you for the input. I finished cutting out the hull formers last night and did a just-for-fun test fit of the first few pieces. The hot-glue gun is warmed up, so I'm gonna start gluing!

I use the hot-glue gun only for the egg crate formers. It gives me a little time to position everything at right angles, then I hold the parts in position until it firms up. It is really messy looking , but the mess is all inside. The only real problem is that there are always plastic threads to clean up.

If you're using hot glue to give time to adjust frame parts so that they are at right angles it might be worth tackling this in a different way. I use a piece of graph paper laminated to 1mm card and cut out right angle shims (small right angle triangles) of card. You can use normal white glue and the shims ensure the frame parts are at right angles.

Regards,

Charlie

I considered gussets, but decided I didn't need them. The framework seems to be well engineered and is pretty sturdy so far. I've done just about all the hot-gluing that makes sense -- it'll be white glue from here on out. The basic frame is shaping up but there are still many pieces to go on. The photo shows the messy globs of hot-melt glue, but they're all on the inside.

I'll be following along and chime in when needed. The most confusing part of this build was the assembly of the road wheel bogies. The diagrams for those are not very intuitive. Definitely take a look at Kevin and my threads for guidance as you go.

Another update -- I had some time yesterday morning to finish up the structure. It mostly went together pretty well with a few places where I didn't quite get parts aligned perfectly. I'm not sure how much the misalignments will bite me when the skins go on, but I plan to do lots of test fits first and fill if I must. I caught one error in time though. In the picture I had not cut out the small circles because I thought they were just position indicators for the drive sprockets. Looking at Kevin's build thread and the sketchy instructions, I decided they needed to be cut out after all. It was a little more awkward at this stage but still doable. I'm ready to cut the large skin pieces and start the test fitting of parts that will show. Another picture to follow (I don't know how to get my iPad to attach more than one picture per post).

A view of the complete structure. It looks much sleeker than it will later on.
