PzKpfw Panther 5 by Halinski

A little more progress on the Panther. We took it to the US Army Heritage and Education Center as part of a paper modeling exhibition. It was an "in progress" display and was very well received. Finished the main 75 mm gun barrel and installed. Also the forward machine gun bubble, targeting sights hatch details. The camera lens made the gun barrel look bent but it is really straight. More to come later. I have about a million track sections to make!

After taking a model break over the summer I'm back into it again. Now starting on the wheels and tracks. There are 20 wheels total both idler and drive wheels. Each wheel has multiple parts as can be seen in the wheel assembly line I set up.

Wheels completed. and starting to assemble tracks. Hundreds of track sections to make. Each track section takes about ten minutes. Temporary wood hinge pins are in place to hold track sections together until ready to actually install on model. I previously cut out all the separate pieces.

Found some errors and will sort them out while assembling tracks. First is two parts with same number. Next is drawing with part number missing.

PzKpfw Panther 5 Tank by Halinski

Working on the tank wheels and tracks. The photo of tracks is the result of 30 hours of work. Still another 30 to go for the other side. Still have temporary link pins to hold track together until installed on tank. Tank body is upside down in the photo.

PzKpfw Panther 5 Tank by Halinski

Continued work on tracks and finally finished. Next was to install the axels and wheels. I made a jig to get the same height on all the axles which is 5mm above the tank bottom. All axels installed

Put on wheels.

Tracks installed. Now working on the bits and pieces of hardware and tools stored outside the tank.
