slowly

the hull comes together

a nice strong, interlocked box
with each piece helping to align its neighbors

poking holes

and cutting holes
i could not find anything in my books to correspond to the rounded corner at the front edge of the tank, so i trimmed it off
rather than try to cut the holes in the outer pieces and hope they will all line up i glued on the pieces and then cut the holes... which was a little messier than i liked
i used the cover plates to mark where the threaded holes would be to bolt them on and punched those into the body
this is not really a model of the hull of the tank, but rather a model of the hull of a model... i don't have the references to really know how the hull would strip down

and here is the start of the drawing

in corel draw

i started by guessing the guy was 5' 7" tall
which gave me a 9' inner diameter, and a 5" flange
seemed reasonable

and here's

today's building
i went back and looked at my own wespe photos and confirmed that the hull rear was a welded plate
and that the rounded corners in the front i cut off really needed to be there
i tried blackening the holes in the side where things bolt in, which worked, but only sort of
i may have to use a black wash on them

tried the fit

LOL
fits perfectly

since i drew the roller mechanism my guesstimates taken from screen shots of the youtube video
having its frames for bolting the sides of the tank fit perfectly is hillarious

It looks like they used Sherman Tank bogie wheels for the rollers. Intriguing concept for your diorama.
