Schneider CD 1:50

A new Wayne McCullough model - Schneider CD.

The Schneider CD was a heavy artillery tractor based on the chassis of the Schneider CA1 tank. It was used to tow heavy artillery pieces like the 145mm Ruelle St-Chamond and 155mm GPF from roadheads to battery positions across shelled and muddy ground. It could also supply the guns unlike the "pure" tractors like the Holt tractors. There were about 250 Schneider CDs in service at the end of WW1. The French Army kept them in reserve and they were mobilised in 1939, some even were used by the Wehrmacht.

This was a challenging model - it's quite small - at 1:50 it's 105mm (about 4inches) long.

Regards,

Charlie

Some more images of the Schneider...

It was designed as an artillery tractor - the last image is with a WW1 artillery piece. It's not the right sort of gun but gives the impression.

Regards,

Charlie

A couple of extra images to show some of the detail in this model. It has the complex Schneider suspension modelled - not something you expect to see in 1/48 models. It is possible to make the springs in the track frames from wire as well as the pair of larger springs under the hull. You can just see one the springs under the hull in the image of the track frame.

Regards,

Charlie

That's a great looking model, and a clean build on your part.

It's a beautiful model, Charlie and Wayne.

I am delighted to see that it is in 1/48.
