Nothing is as much fun
as starting a new model
i decided i'd better start on my stash of haliniski models ("before the eyes go" as my brother would say) let's start with a simpler one i thought of several diorama possibilitie and then chanced on a video on youtube of a tank being restored aha! I'll do it as a tank restorer's workshop after poking around a little i decided to try laser cut tracks (new for me) and a metal barrel, both from gpm i have a book on the panzer II and ordered one on the wespe so i'll have to get a base cut and start figuring out what should be in the "workshop"... maybe an overhead hoist ? |

The Modelik overhead crane may still provide a good basis for an indoor mounted one that can move back and forth within the building. Just a thought.

Ken,
Modelik's gantry crane is a challenging model. If you choose to build it, be prepared to roll lots and lots of paper tubes. It would be a great subject for a diorama - I'd love to see it with a turret suspended in midair. Have Fun! |

i do love that gantry
if i were building it i'd use a lot of bamboo "pipe"
some more setup pictures some images of the "tank roller", its colorful and would make a good common thread for these builds starting the hull, you build the hull then cover the sides, i like the idea of presenting the hull in primer red i just have to figure out how to make some really small rivits now |

small progress
on the hull
i'm not sure if the inner partitions were permantly fastened to the hull or not, i'm waiting for my new reference book to arrive i'm trying to decide if i should put a shot hole thru one side in the front so I can have one of my tank restorers be in the process of welding it up |

rivits
rivits, rivits
first you roll a cylinder of clay then you cut off bits and roll them round between your fingers you control the size of the resulting balls by varying the amount you cut off the cylinder then you bake them then you cut them in half they're not as perfect as store bought, but you can make whatever size you want using the bottom of the hull to mark the cutouts have to leave a little edge around each cutout because they all have to bolt to the hull one problem is the bottom and sides are way to thick for scale ususally i try to have the hull dimensions be to scale... but to complicated to make the necessary changes here so we'll just go on |
