Time to catch up again. Finally finished the road wheels.
So to recap: Parts 51 are the "narrow" sets and parts 52 are the "wide" sets. The spokes on the narrow sets have side trim pieces that I used since they gave me a tapered profile to use to trim a bevel into each spoke. Fit was OK overall. Paint was essential. The spokes on the wide sets had trim pieces I did not use because the one I did try didn't fit all that great for the effort I had to put in. Again paint was even more essential for these. The narrow sets were glued together into complete assemblies before mounting onto the axles. The inner wheels for the wide ones were installed first then the narrow sets, then capped off with the outer wheels of the wide sets. the last outer wheel on each side has not been glued in place yet, until I get the idler wheel sets built, painted and mounted. anyway here are pics to prove the tale. greg

Time to get caught up again.
Parts 53 - the idler wheel. Builds the same as the road wheels. Parts 54 - The drive sprocket. Assembly is not intuitive and the drawings leave a lot to be desired. Also, no indication of the difference between right and left sides (yes there is a difference). Tamiya plastic parts to the rescue here. Parts 55 - Drive motor. no real issues except the OD of the flange that attaches to the sprocket is too large and I had to cut it down a fair amount. Parts 56 - Drive hub assembly. The parts fit fine. I added the fins once everything else was already in place and these are what actually connect the sprockets to the motors. Parts 57 - tracks. So I had a choice between the original or laser cut parts. No mystery here on my choice! Laser cut all the way. Building these was a snap even though some shaping was required (bevels and rounding) to get them to match the prototypes. greg

Looking good, Greg. Nice work on those tracks. I've never taken the time to study a vehicle like this but I can't help wondering, what is the point of having the front wheels, would they even be able to steer given how rigid the tracks would be?

On these types of half tracks, I think the steer wheels would have some benefit. I suspect a Kettenkrad front wheel would be less effective. Never drove any so your guess would be good as mine....
