Part 60 brake system. Thought I was done with chassis stuff, but then there was the brake system.

Fit and configuration of parts was not great. The patterns for the brake lines were not exact and in one case not correct, so much dry fitting and adjustment was required. One piece could not be routed through the chassis in one piece. I had to cut it in half where it wouldn't be seen to get it in place.

Part 61 - Front fender assembly

Fit finish and overall build experience was rather trying for this assembly, mostly due to the petals of the fenders and because each fender is made of inner and outer pieces that need to be curved.

I found filling, sanding and painting to be essential for something acceptable to my eye, although my efforts pale in comparison to others who have built this model.

The front step fairings are also included in this parts group but will remain separate until later on in the build.

The shield insignia was added after paint from a photocopy of the fender.

Parts 62 and 63, Grill and Radiator.

The grill has some issues. The front face is very fiddly due to the thin side strips on each side and the separate top center piece to get the correct grill contour. I decided to copy the front grill markings onto card stock and replace it after paint to restore that detail.

ALL of the top and side wrapper pieces are too short on each end. I left extra (white) material extensions on each side and trimmed to fit after gluing.

the thin grill bars take some thought. the inner opening surround has markings for placement of these bars. I dimpled the top marks and drilled out the bottom ones to make placement easier.

My putty and painting efforts were not quite as successful as on the fenders. I think the grill was a little too delicate for more aggressive treatment by my hands.

The radiator has a complex wrapper that takes some thought to construct. unfortunately it is also too short on the lower right side. Thankfully the glue tab provided fills the resulting gap. The radiator inserts are supposed to be a scratch built woven mesh, I took an easier approach and used some steel mesh stock cut to shape and mounted on some bond paper to prevent see-through. I think it looks the part.

Installing the two, I glued in the radiator first, dropped the grill over the radiator fill neck and glued the bottom side edges to the fender assembly. Then I added the radiator cap and hoses to finish.
