Parts 11 the left and right track tensioning mechanism

Lots of little fiddly pieces. I replaced most of the paper pins with wood, plastic and aluminum rod. Buildup was OK. The build diagram was a little enigmatic.

Most of the subassemblies were positionable which was helpful to get the right orientation when installing. once positioned I put a little CA glue in each joint to set them.

An interesting note is that these mechanisms were adjusted manually. Bet the guy tasked with that chore got himself a nice workout.

Front axle assembly (parts 12-15)

The main part of the axle mounting cross member is a puzzle and a not so easy to build clean one at that.

The axle assembly built OK until the "A" shaped tube. It was difficult to roll, the rear mounting pivot was too large and complex, and the legs ended up too long after figuring out where it was to attach to the axle tube (diagrams were useless here).

The spring built up just fine.

The mechanical shocks built up OK but installing them on the axle mount was problematic as the rectangular components on the mount interfered with proper seating of the shock and I had to do some trimming.

Paper spindles were replaced with plastic rod. All other parts to be fabricated were done so with appropriate diameter plastic rod or metal bead wire.

So far the steering works and the axle oscillates. hope I can keep it this way.

item 16 - steering gear

Tried to make this workable. Almost had it too except for those end pieces on the link, they did not want to be pinned in place and had to be glued.

I did use crafters choice glue which is supposed to stay somewhat flexible, so it might have some movement. Here's hoping.

Road wheel swing arms - item 17

Replaced swing arm mount pin from rolled paper to 3 mm rod. I had to sacrifice a micro bristle brush handle for this as it was the only thing handy that was easy to cut.

Assembly was fiddly but no real issues. much CA glue reinforcement happened.

I am living on the edge by mounting these in place already without wheels and tracks to provide guidance. I did use the side diagram provided to help me position them. If all else fails, I guess I'll have some rework in my future.
