Manchuria 1945

A friend of mine and his buddies are playing a game of Manchuria 1945, and he was needing some vehicles. He made a Zis-5 stand in that he wasn't happy with and put out a call for some help.

Here's the Zis-5 in action

He then requested either a Type 94 truck or Type 95 Kurogane for the Japanese side, so I changed the Zis around a bit to do the Type 94

But the Kurogane intrigued me. I did a model of Herbie the Love Bug, and while I was trying to figure out how I wanted to do it, I found a couple easy-build beetles, so Harry, of course, requested one in German brown for his Five Men in Normandy game. He hasn't built it yet, though.

But the easy-build beetle gave me an idea how to do the Kurogane

Collected a lot of images, especially of this restoration

This was my test build

After doing the test build, I was able to do the final tweak of the files before sending them on, but I think it is a fair representation for the first 4X4

I should mention that these are just gaming proxies, not meant to be 100% accurate. Scaled for 28mm gaming, roughly 1/56. I made the Kurogane slightly larger at 1/54. The real thing only had a wheelbase of 74 inches

Kurogane is really nice. Will it be available to download?
I'd love to see one in 1/25 scale too. Maybe you'll try to make a bigger one?
It's definitely my favorite vehicle of the WWII. I could have hundreds of them .

These are just quick proxies to use in war games, not meant to really be models.

I posted this because I was pleased at how well it came out. I have no plans to do a larger one. It is far from perfect, but good for its purpose. Especially since I don't know of any other versions of this unique vehicle.

I could clean it up and post it, I suppose, but it was primarily just a time-filler while my fingertips healed up as a gift for a friend. I'll see what I can do

Very good, Dave. I think you have captured the Type 95 Kurograne, which I always thought was a good-looking little sawed-off staff car.

I have to laugh. Harry originally wanted this in that tan/brown color. Now he was wondering how much trouble it would be to switch back to the olive/gray ...

I guess I might have to play with this some more. I also have this feeling that there might be folks that want to build it. Just think of it as a paper toy, not a model

I did a quick Hue adjustment on the original brown.

Like I said, it is more of a toy or curiosity...

Yes, then I guessed at how much to lengthen to fit the curves. After building it, I adjusted the length again based on the tab width that it was too short. I wouldn't say this will be 'spot on', but it ought to be workable.

Especially at this small scale, which helps to hide issues

The trucks worked for the games, but this guy came out much better than anticipated

Took a photo of the little Kurogane, the Beetle and the test build of the Zis for size comparison

That little grouping of military vehicles looks good.

I have printed out the Type 95s and hope to try building them soon. Too many unfinished projects on the bench!
