1/87 Columna Durruti Improvised Armored Car
Following last weeks build, I saw the Anarchist Improvised Armored Car in this thread,
Alexander Bondar - Spanish Anarchist Improvised Armoured Car it really caught my interest. So I rescaled it to 1/87, my preferred armor scale and set about to work on it. The build was not without its tribulations, mostly on my part. However, I feel it turned out ok, and I am happy with that. The only caveat to anyone building this model, watch the front fenders. I originally placed the flat side of the fender against the body. It didn't look right. So I did some extra research, and found I had installed them incorrectly. The long flat side of the fender actually faces outward. A little surgery and a reprint later, and you might not even notice it. Overall a great fitting little kit. Lots of little greebles to add if you wish. And now a little walk around the vehicle. As every Anarchist needs an adversary, I think I may do the "Viva Franco" captured version of the Somua Naval Bus found here Somua-Naval Armored Bus

Nice little truck!
Also an interesting historical subject. Spanish civil war is not too popular, so it's always great to see another model from this period.

Alternatively the Bilbao armoured car is a possible opponent. Sergei Kamotsky (Robototehnik) has a free 1/35 download at:

You did a great job on this interesting vehicle - and in such a small scale.

Nice, little and very accurate, my congratulations Texman!
I'm currently at work with it and endorse your comments regarding the fitting of the pieces that is exquisite, only you will have to provide an also exquisite craftsmanship as the assembly of hull requires extra care to avoid warping. Regarding adversaries, these "monsters" were mostly intended just to scare away their enemies; notwithstanding, they proved very useful to overrun most of the Aragonese countryside as the fascist militia and gendarmerie couldn't confront them with small arms. Their most fearsome foe was mechanical breakdown, as the front lacked in both maintenance facilities and spare parts and they ended as scrap piles by the road sides. Pablo. |

BTW. the three letters on top of the radiator (MTM) identify the workshops that produced it: Barcelona's la Maquinista Terrestre y Marítima.
