Thanks Pablo, Don and Michael. I've built 2 of Sr Bea's models so far and really enjoy them. I'll be working on his Iron Belt Ambulance next. I've sent the recolored/rescaled Pamplona #3 parts pages off to Charlie Clelland over at Landships II. I expect that they'll be available for download before too long.

There's a problem, Charlie. When I tried to download the Navarrese truck, the file that opened was the Benach armored tractor.

Should be ok now - might teach me not to rush the upload and check process.

Instead of working on Sr Bea's Iron Belt Ambulance, I've opted for the Iron Belt armored truck instead. I'm recoloring it to represent a vehicle that might have been fielded by the Basque combatants. A question for my Spanish modeling friends: would a vehicle from this region be more likely to be painted with slogans written in Spanish, or Euskara? Euskara would be more interesting, but also more work.

Hello Don! Interesting question!
Most armored vehicles were improvised in factories, which belonged to the socialist/communist urban realm, and where Spanish was the most spoken language at the time; That's why the UHP motto (Proletarian Brothers' Union) was the most painted, followed by the hammer & sickle or "long live the Popular Front" . See it in here:
Vehiculos y blindados de la guerra civil española Spanish civil War Armored truck: pais Vasco.
On the other hand, during operations, these vehicles were split in "penny packets" in order to provide support to infantry columns; as 50% of the infantry battalions were composed of Basque nationalists, with little leftists sympathies, it may be expected that some 50% of the vehicles resorted to nationalist mottoes: these may include the Basque flag and Basque toponymics in their characteristic script:
La letra vasca. Etnicidad y cultura tipográfica
Also you may find some vehicle sporting the whole specter of political affinities as the one in the pic!

Regards!

Thank you for your response, AgaPablo. Post Guernica, I figured most Basques would be more sympathetic to the Republican side. I was thinking I would decorate the roof top turret with a band of Basque flags. One side and the rear of the truck would carry U.H.P. On the other side, I was considering a clenched fist in red, followed by Death to Franco! on one line, and Long Live Agirre! on another (Muerte a Franco! ¡Viva Agirre!, or Heriotza Franco! Bizi ezazu Agirre!). I want to pound home that this is a Basque vehicle, so I'm actually leaning toward Euskara, unless you think I'm being too "over the top".
