S-51 experimental, WoT design, in 1/50
Greetings. Returning to the designs WoT chose the S-51, a self-propelled experimental weapon that consisted of a 203mm howitzer, the M1931 (B-4) mounted on a KV-1S helmet. Although the tests were successful, it did not enter production.
The model does not seem easy, I chose the detailed version, you have to do a lot of work with wire, we will see if you get a good result. Start with the helmet, the usual, recycled cardboard to reinforce and achieve solidity. Both sides, consist of several pieces, many folds and edges to color. Then the base of howitzer, something delicate to join both sides, superior with the bottom, but with the quality of WoT there are no problems, everything fits perfectly. Let's see the work. |

These WOT kits are really very good and are presented in several detail levels to suit builders of all skills. I also use heavy board for reenforcing the structures and I have recently started up-scaling them to 1/35th scale to make use of after-market tracks. You are off to a good start here, looking forward to your build.
All the best and happy modelling. Bernie |

Good start - I think you'll find the trunnions on the howitzer quite tricky to get right.
There seems to be different opinions on how successful the S-51 was. I've read that the muzzle blast and unabsorbed recoil damaged the hull and suspension of the tank chassis. The B-4 howitzer was a beast of a gun. It always reminds me of a Saint-Chamond design for a 220mm howitzer built in 1918 which never went into production. Regards, Charlie |

Greetings. The running gear is ready, 22 rollers in total, entertaining part this. The wheels of drag and smaller rollers do not present difficulty, just pay attention when orienting the rings and the lights and shadows of the "caps"
The lower 12 rollers, not their technical name, require a little more attention. In addition to orienting the rings so that the bands are on the right side, we must center both covers so that lights and shadows are in the right place and the 3d effect. At the same time these covers have a slight discoloration in each of them and we must position them well. Also the small central plugs have their correct position. I think I did it well, I guided myself with the union of the rings orienting this union to that are hidden by the chain. The photos of the finished model are very helpful. And again thanks to Don and Cfuruti for making me notice this detail. Now the chains will follow. Thank you very much. |
