What a wonder, it's amazing how it looks, I can not imagine when you paint it. Really and without exaggeration you have an impressive talent for this.

Engine is painted. I'm not going to give my usual long winded explanation of how I got to this point, I'm just going to post some pictures.
I tried some new techniques I saw in some youtube videos, to say I'm happy with the results would be an understatement. Next up, there's just a few finishing touches to apply around the frame/chassis and the exhaust, engine needs to be mounted, then it's time to move on to the front bumper and grille. |

Thanks rifleman, funny you should mention it, I was almost tempted to post it as a separate model, I was so happy with how it turned out.

Out standing, it would make an excellent separate model too. Could it be scaled up to be displayed next to the vehicle itself?

Thanks Mike. Upscaling it would make a very nice model indeed, allowing for a lot more detail, unfortunately I didn't scan it before I built it so if I was to build another one it'd have to be from scratch.

Impressive. As Mike says the engine can only be considered a model. Fabulous work. When this in place, has access to see it or is hidden? I suppose so, otherwise it would be a pity to be hidden.

Depends on how the model is built. There is an engine cover on top that is easily made removable. The left and right cabs can be made to pivot forward like the prototype. The drivers side cab (left one) would not show much of the engine if pivoted but the passengers side cab (right side) would. Jaffro, Your engine easily surpasses mine, great job! Keep in mind that the exhaust pipes that are perpendicular to the frame actually are supposed to go through the "battery box" module. There are no provisions for this, so plan accordingly. greg

Thank you both. I do intend to make the engine cab removable and toyed with the idea of cutting a section out of the "wall" between the drivers cab and engine bay so that it could be seen when that was raised too, but decided it was too much effort to do it now, after it's been built. I'm also considering displaying the finished model in some sort of diorama with everything around the engine being opened up.
Thanks for the heads up on the exhausts Greg, I hadn't noticed that yet. One thing I had noticed in reference pics and model shots was that the exhaust is barely visible on the outside so I'm almost tempted to not bother with it but we'll see how it goes. Right now I'm in the middle of building the front bumper and front grille assembly and as much as I enjoyed doing the engine, it sure is nice to start working on some external parts of this thing, after spending nearly 2 months working on internal stuff that's not even going to be visible once it's finished. |
