Thank you Enrico,
It was your build of your Maz537g and ChMZAP that inspired me to learn how to do weathering effects and apply them to this model. |

Just a minor progress update, it's been a slow couple of weeks due to other distractions.
Pretty sure I've lost some more pics along the way, I have more built than what's shown here but that can wait till the next update. Build and fit for the control and refueling cabins has been pretty straight forward although I will probably be making some changes due to there being a few fitting issues with the outer skins on the cabins themselves. Not sure what's gone wrong but it will be an easy fix with putty and paint. As mentioned earlier, I added a few extra details to the refueling cabin as there wasn't much in there. I re-positioned the control board as it sat too high to be visible through the door, I added some hoses and a small cabinet full of junk. The cabinet also wasn't going to be very visible where I intended to mount it so I moved it down near the floor. I had to scratch build all the buttons and knobs etc on the control panels, I much prefer the 3D look than the printed details. I had them printed out on decal sheets but it just wasn't going to be enough detail for my liking. I now have to weather the interiors before finishing off the outsides of both cabins then attaching them to the middle section that holds them together, this is where I'm missing pics. The middle section here was the first major use of lasercut parts for the formers, other than the wheels, and it all went together really well, the skins also fit very well without needing a trim. I'm already on track to finish this in time for a model show I'd like to take it to next year but some further inspiration arrived this week, the first and main kit for a new multi-kit project I'm going to be working on after this, so I'm now hoping to speed things up a bit and get this finished before I start on the next one. |

Fantastic detailed, nothing escapes you.Indicators, buttons, cables, hoses, the cabinet and what you have inside, you can not believe, impressive.

It's been quite a productive week, the control cabins are complete and painted, along with the previous section, whatever that's called. All that's left for them now is a final touch-up paint, some weathering and decals. Here's the previous section the radiator and battery housing (I think) after a coat of paint.
After completing the interiors as shown earlier, I decided they needed floor mats, so I added a couple, and various other extra details to the exterior. Both cabins had some minor details making up some external hatches, I added the obligatory rivets and some extra 3D detail, such as recessing some panels and adding some bits and pieces. There's a rack type thing that goes between the two sections, to hold the weight of the missile gantry, Not much to report here, It went together pretty well with a bit of trimming required, I didn't bother laminating the double sided parts since I'm painting. Doors went together without a fuss and fit in their doorways perfectly, I added some rivets to the outside and nuts inside. Before closing up the cabins I added some weathering, grime and dust etc then masked the doors with some tacky glue so I could remove the mask after spraying the whole thing, this was a lot easier than the way I had to do the drivers cabins. I used a bit of putty here to smooth out the rounded shape on the edge of the cabins. |

So, as previously mentioned, after painting, all that's needed now is a bit of a touch-up, some weathering and decals.
Next up is the rear section, this is going to take a while as it includes a lot of boxes that open and close, lots of detail, small parts, moving parts, the list goes on... not to mention the missile gantry and the missile itself. Even after coming this far, the parts pages and instructions look quite daunting but I've made it this far, there's no turning back now. |

Hi Tom,
The putty I use is called Timber Mate, it's a water based putty that adheres to the paper quite well and it doesn't set very hard like some parties so it sands easily. Being water based means I can dilute it to suit my needs but care needs to be taken when using water based products on paper. For weathering, I use a selection of Vallejo products. I paint the model using an airbrush with their model air range then add the weathering by hand with a brush or cotton buds etc. For weathering I alternate between dry and wet brushes, I use washes in black and rust colours to add highlights and also use some pigment powders to either alter my paint colour or add a dry dust/dirt effect. This is the first time I've weathered a paper model so I'm teaching myself by watching YouTube videos and reading tips on forums etc. I experimented briefly, earlier on the model, with some chipping medium, a slightly intensive process used on plastic models but it was a bit too harsh on the paper so I stopped using it. |
