Frot_Laffly Landship

One of the attempts by French inventors to produce an armoured vehicle in 1915 which could cross the battlefield and crush the barbed wire entanglements in front of the trenches. This was an armoured body on top of a Laffly roadroller. It could make short work of barbed wire entanglements but its trench crossing capabilities were non existent.

The model was rescaled from Corey's 1:72 model - it really needs rivet detail which I might get around to.

Great looking model, Charlie. I'm assuming this is a 1/50 scale version? I built one in 1/72 years ago - Frot-Laffly Landship, 1915

You may have just inspired me to gussy it up a bit more and resize it to 1/50. It's good to see this kit again. CT did a great job designing it.

Yes it's 1:50. There are some slight misfits which turn up as a result of scaling the model up. I printed it on 200 gsm card rather than my usual 160 gsm to get slightly stiffer parts. The roof needs some additional formers to get the right shape. I put in 1mm strips where the front and back plates are glued in - I couldn't see any way to accurately position these otherwise.

I found an image of a 1909 Laffly roadroller to give some idea of the vehicle underneath the armoured shell.

I volunteered to give a talk on WW1 French tanks next month and thought it would be a good idea to have models of the vehicles - so far I've got a Filtz armoured tractor, two Schneider CDs and the Frot-Laffly - I think I have some serious model building over the next few weeks.
