Somehow I didn't notice this thread...

Anyway, you're doing a really nice work with this S-51.
I'm not really fascinated about Russian armor(maybe because it's almost everywhere in Poland) but this one could be interesting.

Good luck, Sergio!

Great job on the tracks. The natural looking sag gives the appearance of weight.

There's a problem with the instructions in the S-51 model. In the simple version the top of the tank hull is flat behind the gun. The detailed version has a trench under the gun breech - it's part #62. It isn't marked on the model and it looks as if you would have to install this part early in the build. Without the trench the gun can't be elevated to high angles - check out the images in the model .pdf to see how far the gun could be elevated.

My build of the S-51 model got to the point of installing the gun when I realised the gun couldn't elevate fully - after some very bad words I put the model on my "I might get back to that someday heap"

Regards,

Charlie

Thank you very much everyone!
Charlie, cute mess I have now.As he says, the well should be mounted before closing the helmet. The instructions do not specify it.I have 2 options: 1, leave it like this 2 major surgery, remove the base of the howitzer, cut the well and the bottom of the hull, build the well underneath and close again. It will not be easy. I'm going for the difficult. Thank you very much Charlie.

.A lot of patience and in a couple of hours we solved the inconvenience that Charlie commented. I thought it would give more work. Although it is not the same as doing it from the beginning it disguises quite well. I am going to tell the WoT guys this detail. Thank you very much Charlie .

Nice job on the repair. I doubt that most observers would notice anything amiss. Chopping into your fine work must have caused you some misgivings, but it turned out well in the end. Although painful, you chose the right path. Leaving the flat part in place would have detracted from the finished model. I hope the WoT folks will update the instructions for the complex model so other builders like you and Charlie don't fall into the same trap.

Fortunately, it worked out very well and did not give much work. Learning the base was the most delicate. If it were not for Charlie's warning I would have found this problem later and I do not think it could be solved without breaking something. In my case, the helmet , without the detailed, and I could manipulate it without problems. The well gives a very different aspect to the flat of the simple version. Take a good decision to correct this. Again many thanks Charlie.

Nice save Sergio! As Don said, barely noticeable, and that's only if you know where to look. Let me say again Sergio how impressed I am at the high quality of your builds. You have come a very long way in a short amount of time, my friend. Looking forward to whatever you may build in the future.
