side tracked?

I made a "Ferret" as a load for my paper train and English Village. In 1/72 scale. I intended the attached kit to be printed on bond and laminated to
two more layers. Card stock should be fine too. Test build in photos is white bond with a "Marks a Lot" green marker. It is based on the Weet-a-Bix one with modifications as seen in the last picture.

I'm also working on a range rover and the 10 ton army truck...all together a convoy through my village perhaps. Although it's not WWII, I've got a Bren Carrier for and some other stuff for that era.

Anyways here's a colored "Ferret" one for everyone. Good luck to anyone who wants to add this tiny armored car to their collections. (Can be scaled up to 1/4 scale too.

CONGRATULATIONS!

The first Ferret in paper I have ever seen (albeit the Weetabix one looks a fraction odd)!

------------------------------------------------------

I have looked for years for a paper model of a Ferret - to no avail.

I have also asked a couple of model designers, but no interest.

I cannot really understand why, as I reckon there would be a good market. Plus once designed, variants would be easy (the hull and turret base stays the same), and there are quite a few variants.....

Very nice, the front glacis and wheel arches at the front should be faceted rather than curved but a good facsimile.

Thought folks might be interested in this one. Thanks for the comments.
I think Michael Cain is in a "Ferret" in "A Bridge Too Far" But I'd have to check.
Might have been one of the other types recce vehicles.

Caught me Mike, On the bright green one I forgot to check the top length
so the fenders/top are a 1/16" short. Giving the impression of a curve.
Colored one in first picture is the corrected version.

A side note...when I loaded the Weet-a-bix image into Auto CAD I just scaled
the wheel diameter to 1/2". Looked up the wheel base and found that it's 80" axle to axle.
Did a test line measurement in 1/72 and behold it the old Weeta one was very close to the 80".
So I kept going not sure if the "turret" facets would work

The only other armored vehicles wiith open turrets I've done were the Best Paper Models
M10 and my own LVTA5 open turret for my LVT Amtrak. All have assembed well.

Please comment on any Beta builds/modifications. If anyone wants a white version
to color for a desert one just let me know.

I do like the wee beastie, I drove a Ferret on more than a few occasions. They were kept on for a few of the senior nco's in logistics etc. Lots of fun and they felt fast but the steering wheel took a bit of getting used to being angled back towards the driver.

Mike, that's interesting. Have a turret ready to test and will build it when I print it out soon.

Stay tuned to see if it works before I head back to the English Village.

First Pass

Here is a first pass at the turret for the ferret scout car.
I printed it on green paper from the investment brokerage firm.
Green on one side white with text on the back. You still have to edge color the parts when cut out.
This turret has problems. So a Big THANKS to Kevin (on holiday in the UK).
Following the 3 view diagrams last posted by Kevin, there is now a corrected turret for the model.

This green paper is really really dark even in Thurs. morning sun.
