Ontos

Hi,
I'm going to have a go at the Ontos by designer Michael Rozinek, from the minimodel.cz site, courtesy of Ricky

M50A1 Ontos design

For those not familiar with it, it was a tankette-sized vehicle with 6 M40 recoilless rifles mounted on the exterior. The US Army rejected it, partly due to the need for crew to exit the vehicle to reload, but the US Marines had a few hundred produced and they saw service in Vietnam, in particular the battle of Hue. A very interesting vehicle. I'll be interested to hear if any of our members had any personal contact with it.

I've enlarged it up to 50th scale. As mentioned in the original thread there are no instructions, so it's going to take a bit of figuring out later on but I've done the basic hulk, wheels, and mudguards. I'm not going to go mad detailing it, just a few added bits.

Julian

I have seen two Ontos in my travels, one was a display of various Armor used by the Marines, located aboard MCAGCC in Twentynine Palms, and the other as part of the Battle of Hue display at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico Virginia

Following this thread with interest.

Rick - there is also one in the Forgotten Warriors Vietnam Museum in Cape May County, NJ right across from the NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum.

That one at Quantico is set in an amazing diorama, I've only seen photos but they've done a good job on it.

HAI
I think there are a few missing parts in the rear of the cannon
The chamber and the opening handle
Is it possible to get an assembly diagram only for the cannon
