What the "blanket" are next to the fuel cans?

Those are water cans not fuel

And those are crew blankets. Just for any use as any soldier/trooper blanket

By the way - the straps are ok, they do not need to overlap the blankets. Upper end was attached to upper plate. That way they prevented blankets falling from shelf.

Thanks. I had the similar one made from wool, but deep green color with sign "US ARMY". It was in my childhood.

Well, i'm not good in scratch build. Made them as i though it would.
There's not much explanation in instruction and on the drawings.

The blanket had a continuous smooth surface like a coat, for example.

Maybe at WW II there was more rugged material, not as today modern, because i found this drawing on Sherman site and it's not looking like smooth.

Blankets.... There are blankets in 1:25 scale inside the f*&^%ing model... Officially, it's insanely great work.....
