I have very little patience for making so many of exactly the same wheels so I admire those that can do that. This is excellent project, maybe more challenging than previous ones. It's coming together very well.

2020...
It's been a long time since my last post here but today I finally convinced myself to go back to this project.
I've prepared the first parts of sprocket and idler wheels. They're glued on a thin cardboard and varnished. I'll leave them to dry and continue my work tomorrow. I hope to finish the whole running gear this week. Then we can focus on a little more interesting parts of this artillery... (I can't wait!) It will be a real fun with making all those movable elements. But now let's see what we got at the moment:

The running gear is basically finished. Now I have to make the tracks. But before I do that, I'll do some painting work first(model is obviously varnished in the areas I'm going to paint).
However, I haven't decided about the paint I'll use yet. For sure I'll use one of these from the photo below. I think number 1 would be a better choice but I'd really like to hear your opinions too.

Excellent Kacper wheels! Very good running gear. I prefer Option 1, although both would look good.

Thanks, Sergio.
The running gear has been painted. And surprisingly, I didn't use paint number 1. I used the number 2... Today I compared both paints in the daylight and my first choice turned out to be a bit too greenish. The second paint is more accurate if we compare it to the real vehicle I think. Just take a look at the North Korean photos I posted here in my previous posts. Anyway, I really like the result.

What do you use for painting?Any primers beforehand?
Few times I did paint it turned out awful, just horrible.I tried acrylics,Humbrol and no-go. I gave up on tanks in part due to this issue. |

For painting I use acrylics, mostly Tamiya and Pactra. Sometimes if I can't find the paint I want in their charts, I go for Gunze, Vallejo or Mig.
But the most important thing in painting paper models is VARNISH. You always have to varnish the model before painting. If you don't do that, then the disaster is unavoidable. Like I said many times, the best varnish for paper models is the one that is used for all kind of wooden things, like fences, tables, etc. It makes model incredibly solid and also... water-resistant. I'd recommend to leave the varnished model to dry for at least 24 hours. I paint by brush or by airbrush(M-1978 is painted only by brush). So, that would be all I think. Hope this will help you, Karol. If you have any further questions, just ask.

Here's the running gear, completely finished.
I've decided to use the tracks from WoT's T-54. They had great textures. However, I had to modify those tracks and make them a bit wider because they didn't fit to the wheels. This update is also a great example of how important it is to color the edges.
