1/50 Fiat 2000

This is CT Ertz's kit, enlarged from 1/72 and gussied up with a little Photoshop work. It stood up very well to the enlargement - everything fit together perfectly in the new scale, which speaks favorably to the accuracy of the design. The domed turret was scary looking, but in reality was quite easy to form. Corey's decision to create this difficult shape using upper and lower petaled halves worked very well. It was necessary to "disassemble" the original lower hull parts and reunite them differently so the enlarged parts would fit on the page. Corey's kit does not come with machine guns or cannon, so I had to scrounge those up from elsewhere.

The Fiat 2000 tank project began in 1915, and the first (incomplete) prototype was tested in mid-1917. By early 1918, two tanks were completed. Armed with a 65mm main gun and 7 machine guns, it was an offensive powerhouse. It weighed in at a massive 40 tons, dwarfing the British Mark V and German A7V which weighed 26 and 33 tons respectively. The photo below with a Fiat 2000 next to a Schneider and a couple of Renault FTs illustrates how gigantic this tank was.

Besides the Photoshop work, I further detailed the model with individual track links and wire grab handles. If I was to build this kit again, I would reduce the width of the tracks by 1mm, and add this corresponding thickness to the inner wall of the side armor. I think it would look much better... more like the real thing, which had pretty hefty armor to protect the suspension.

I'd like to host the 1:50 rescale on Landships II if that would be possible.

A new, larger Fiat 2000 model would be great especially since there is a project running in Italy to build a replica Fiat 2000. This is not just a hull form over a tracked vehicle but a full reconstruction of the original vehicle.
The team has made remarkable progress in constructing a new Fiat 2000 from limited surviving plans and a 1:10 (?) scale constructor's model.

Thank you for your kind comments, Ray and Beard. Charlie, if it's ok with Corey, it's ok with me. Before I send you the file I want to make a few changes to some of the parts: I've already mentioned the track and side armor alterations, but I also need to enlarge the apertures for all the guns.

Thanks, Rafael. I've built quite a few WWI tanks and armored cars over the years.
