R & P Models. Upsized to 1:200.
I have tinkered around with the interesting free 1:250 models offered by R& P models. I resized the models to 1:200 to be more manageable. I printed and am building mainly the Russian equipment. I repainted some and modified some. The models now have rotating turrets and ordnance (like MRLS). Lots of fun and some are easy to build. Some are not. And some are outright miserable to build. But all fun.

First serious attempt at turning ordnance. A ZiL 135, BM-27 Uragan. I had not modified the model, which is why there is a white square under the Rocket launcher. Otherwise i am very satisfied with the result.

So, mad as I am, I went over all the R&P Models and selected as many BRDM-2s as I could fit on a sheet and arranged them and printed them out on the same paper.
The last picture shows a large number of models under construction. As I can only glue one tab at a time and then let it sit, I build several models concurrently. Some of them end up being dead ends, either because of a mistake I made or a slight design hickup that makes the model not buildable to my liking. Still, quite enjoyable builds. |

So, I really went wild and wanted to make the models so that turrets and other weaponry could turn. I repainted and filled in white areas. THen printed a sheet and went to town.
The technique I came up with is to laminate a thicker card on the inside of the top of the model, where the turret will be. Then I use a hole punch. The typical leather punch with handles and a rotating head. I try as best as I can to hit center and punch out a plug. I then glue a larger piece to the bottom of the plug and put it pack in the hole. Next, I carefully glue the top of the plug, trying my best not to get glue outside the plug, and place a larger disc of 28lb paper on it. I finish the hull and finally add the turret. |

My most recent projects - this past week - were two SPAAGs ZSU-23-4 Shilka and a Type 80 SPAAG (Chinese export version of the ZSU-57-2. I have not yet attached the gun barrels. They will be painted copper wire.
I modified the Shilka to have a recessed spot for the guns, possibly allowing for elevation. |
