Dave Winfield's WW1 armored car 1/12
hi everyone,
I usually build ships but am taking a break to build a truck. It is Dave Winfield's armored car from early WW!. It was built on an Autocar truck by adding slabs of metal. I have a soft spot for Autocar trucks since my uncle had a Autocar tractor trailer and I took some trips in it with him as a teen a very long time ago. Anyway this is the beginning. cheers Jim |

This will be very interesting to see.
Many have built the kit, but I've never seen a build report since my original prototype build. I have recently been trying to build the Lorry version, but the work stalled last year. I would like to have both Autocar kits on my shelf...maybe one day.

I will be watching this with interest, I have this kit but have never built it because of its size. But I still want to build it.

Thanks for the comments and interest,
Dave I actually intended to download the truck but hit the wrong button. Will do the truck later. Not much progress just the front axle and the beginnings of the rear axle. Using a 1/4 inch dowel the rear axle comes out too big. My bad. Had to open up the other pieces. cheers Jim |

I'm sure you'll have had enough! lol, but if you still want to build the Lorry,
let me know, and I'll gift it to you. Just drop me an email.

My wife and I will both follow this build with bit more interest than usual. Her Grandfather worked for Autocar during this time frame. Looking great at this point! Foot Note, her Grandfather also taught me to drink Irish whisky neat!

Not much progress lately but the rear springs are done
The last pic it is just sitting on the axle to have its picture taken. I didn't glue the cross spring but used a wire to hold it. I am thinking that some adjustment will be required later to get the wheels to sit flat. cheers Jim |

Jim - don't worry about the wheels sitting "straight" if you are going to use a simple diorama base! You can use that to sort out the probem!
