Sten smg
The Stan was the IDF's weapon until 1955 and was then replaced by the Uzi

Wasn't there a kit of Sten made long ago in digital age? I recall seeing one build much like yours with zero metal parts. I think there was also a Webley revolver and M1911 made by the same author.
Cool idea.Thanks for sharing. |

It looks a lot like the one I have on file marked as "designed by Andrey".
Looks like it might still be available here ... 安德烈_新浪博客 but I haven't tried the download. I haven't tried to build it yet either, but you seem to have done well Avrahamri. Will you be spraying it Black?

That's looking good. The barrel seems excessively long to me, but I'm not familiar with the IDF versions. My familiarity was more with the Mk4 with a wooden butt rather than the WW2 types, and I was even more familiar with the final development as the Stirling SMG. A much derided weapon but more than adequate at what it was designed for. I've not yet found a paper model of the Stirling, other than a few small-scale modified ones carried by Star Wars figures.

The barrel does seem rather long compared to the Mark II I've fired. The frame style butt was probably an improvement over the original. I remember the original butt plate being uncomfortable and useless. The IDF didn't fix the issue of holding the gun with your left hand around the base of the barrel - it was all too easy for your little finger to get into the ejection port and "chomp". The Austen fixed this with a handle under the receiver.

There were longer barrelled stens - I have seen a few. As a lot of our firearms were sourced from Isreal it is likely these are an Israeli variant.
I am sure Avrahamrl will know. To be honest I thought Stens were total rubbish! We had the Stirling as well - not liked either. And we had local versions that were rubbish as well. Were being used in dry dusty dirty conditions (elsewhere in Africa).. The best weapon in this class we had was the Uzi - superb. Easy to carry, maintain and use and hyper reliable! Prone to AD's when picked up by the uninitiated!

The Stirling was my personal weapon as late as the first gulf war. Not exactly the best but not the worst weapon in the world, proper maintenance was important as was care in use, one of the most common faults was operator caused in that careless handling could damage the feed guides of the magazine, stoppages and failure to fit the weapon were the most common issues there. Biggest issue we had was third party ammunition purchased from India, and Pakistan, these had very badly balance propellant loads with some rounds not leaving the barrel and double taps due to the working parts not getting enough energy to return to the fully cocked position, Value for money? Yes, they cost peanuts.

The mythical submachine gun of the underground movements and the IDF in its early years.
The "Stan" was invented and manufactured in Britain in the emergency conditions of World War II, and its great advantage was that it was simple and inexpensive to manufacture and operate. This simplicity led to the fact that the underground organizations in Israel, the Haganah and the Irgun, were able to produce it by their meager means. The "stan" created by the "Hagana" even received a special nickname - TAM (submachine gun made). Yet, The "stan" was an extremely inaccurate and unreliable weapon: on the one hand it had many restraints, and on the other hand it had many instances of bullet ejection. Some defined it as a "democratic weapon" that preserves the freedom of speech and the right to remain silent at will ... "Uzi". Put a sheet of leather on the barrel to prevent heating or hold the cartridge
