BTR-80 Soviet-Afghan War (1979-1989)
This model is another one built in cooperation with my grandson, Kacper (PacificWind). I did the building part, he did the painting+weathering+photos part.
It's a BTR-80. The first time it was deployed was during the Soviet-Afghan War, and that's the period our model represents. These APCs were also used, most notably, in Chechnya, Iraq, and now, they are used in Ukraine... The kit comes from the Model Card Nr 59. It's pretty well-designed, I can't remember any serious problems with parts or anything like that. A few things, like the suspension, are difficult to make them correctly and solid, but an experienced modeler should handle that. It took one month to complete this project. Scale 1/25

That is a beautiful model of an ugly brute of a vehicle (my opinion only, I like it in a weird way). Put to ugly uses, of course.

^ I have to agree, the original design is intended to be functional with no frills and this comes across very well here. Very nicely done, this ex tanker likes a lot.

Thanks.
In 1960s, I had a lot of contact with similar vehicles while in the army, although they were of older generation. T-54, BRDM-1 and 2, GAZ-69, SKOT, PTG, Star 66, and even Lend-lease Studebaker US6 - these are examples I remember. As an instructor, I had a chance to drive and use all of them. Usually I prefer WW2 subjects, but from time to time, it's good to build something different.
