Looks good, Charlie. I still have a partially-built one of these. You model gives me a yen to get back to work on it.

I built the Mkii, but I really want to build a MK III now. Medium Mark III - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There were only 3 or so Medium Mark IIIs built - by the time Vickers designed and built the tank it was fairly obvious the tank was obsolete when delivered. It also was quite expensive so no production order was made for the Mark III.

More interesting than the Mark III were the Birch Guns on the Mark II chassis, the only SPG the British made between the wars or even the early cruiser tanks which were made in numbers and saw some action early in WW2.

Charlie

Resurrecting this build....

Added all the odd boxes and vents to the hull - not much progress but it's a start.

Charlie

Lots of small fiddly bits go into the track frames. There's no indication where the track frames glue onto the hull. I checked with a walkaround at http://ammsbrisbane/home.html?L0=6&L1=0&L2=23
and guessed where the frames should go. There are no instructions with this model so there's a fair bit of guessing where things go.

Regards,

Charlie

Just a heads up if anyone else builds this model:

The roadwheels are represented as 1/3 cylinders the spacing of these on the track frame isn't even - they are pretty much directly under the hinges of the side plates of the track frame.

The return rollers are a real horror - there are a couple of frame pieces which are single thickness and way too weak and floppy. First thing - double the thickness. I had to scratch a U-shaped bracket to attach the front of the return roller frame to the track frame and another bracket to hold the rear of the frame. Like the roadwheels the return rollers aren't just evenly spaced - see attached image and the walkaround referenced earlier in the thread.

The rivet detail and the laminated hinges are just me playing and aren't on the original model.

Regards,

Charlie

I think it's finished....

The tracks are simple bands - I tried to get more flexibility by cutting the hinge lines gluing baking paper onto the band then cutting out the track. It was only
modestly successful. The guns are paper lollipop sticks peeled down to the right diameter and painted - the main gun was sanded down to the tapered profile.

I intend to make a display stand for it using PixelOz's design (downloadable at the Lower Hudson website).

Regards,

Charlie
