helpful comments

I hope this is not a new trend, but I have noticed in the last few weeks that respondents to threads have been demonstrating their general knowledge by correcting erroneous information.

While it may be instructive to know the information is not correct - many people (including me) find it irritating to be corrected - especially in public.

So, I would gently ask that respondents in future follow a comment made many years ago --- "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say it"

BTW - there's no need to let me know who first said the above ;-)

Thanks

Mike

If information given is erroneous, then it needs to be corrected. How else
do you prevent the spread of bad information? If it is not corrected, then
everyone who does not know the correct information, now believes the incorrect
information to be correct.

Getting the correct information is learning.

Should it be done tactfully. Yes indeed. But it does need to be corrected.

Perhaps the people offering the "corrections" are simply trying to be helpful. In that case they might want to consider a PM to the builder who can then decide whether or not to share the information.

I don't have that much longevity on this site maybe a few years but for the most part any corrections made by the members are not done maliciously, smugly or check out the big brain on me mode, they are done to correct an error that could go on. as with Michael , if I'm wrong let me know. I definitely don't want to be the earth is flat crowd, not having heard of satellites and space imagery.

As long as it's done tactfully I see no harm in correcting an erroneous post. Heavens knows I've had any number of my posts corrected in public and, apart from some mild embarrassment at being caught out, I was glad to be corrected.

Infallibility would be a bore.

The only time I really don't want to be corrected is when my info was correct and the person correcting me is wrong.

It was probably me that did the offending comment, so I apologize. I'll try to be more careful in the future

i found over time on here that the majority of comments made on here are helpfull and not made with any motive,There are one or two only on here whose whole purpose in life seems to be to correct and pick holes in anything said.If this is their life goals and it makes them feel superior or important its not an issue with me.i simply ignore any comments they make on any subject
