Do-335

Just started my first Ecardmodels kit, the DO-335. Very good kit, good fit. I think it came out a little dark on my printer but looks good anyway! Building this one as a sort of test build,am working on a repaint in natural metal to print on Red River metalic paper. Sort of a modern air racer look (Red Bull or Mercedes logos?) think it would make a cool air racer...RichDo-335-100_1787.jpg

I've always been a fan of the 335. I'll be watching to see how this works out for you.

I seem to remember a story when a captured 335 was being escorted back to the U.K. by two P-51's. It arrived 40 minutes before them.

Some where I read a tale of two P-51 Mustangs out on patrol who spotted a Do-335 flying at tree top level, the P-51's were up at 5000' or so, they dived on him, the pilot of the Do-335 spotted them comming and went to full throttle (they new this by a belch of black smoke from the plane) the Mustang pilot's said he simply left the in the dust, they were diving and still could not catch him!!...Rich

Same with some typhoons which couldn't keep up. Awesome aircraft. Just be careful when ejecting, or you got your arms ripped off!

There is a story in the link below about P-51's escorting a captured DO 335 and the plane was so fast it arrived at the airport 45 minutes before the P-51's who could not keep up with it. Which means that all things being equal, this planed smoked the P-51's. That, and it is one really cool looking plane. There is some good info here about it.

Your model is exceptionally clean, great job!

Nice technique. I'm trying to build the same model. As a beginner I find it exceptionally challenging. I'm looking forward to the rest of the build.

Sorry George, didn't take any more build photos....the kit built very well, only trouble I had was the gear well inner part hit the inside wing rib, a little trimming of that rib and all fit great. The root fairings are a bit of a challenge but workable. check out my other tread on this plane......Rich

Rich the good thing about paper is I can always reprint. I tried to take the high road by laminating with balsa the ribs. However, I found some good quality card stock and I think I'll use that instead of the Balsa. I think I can get the hang of it! How do you PM? txs George
