FG USN Sopwith Camel
I wanted a quick-to-build, period aircraft to fly around the living room while watching HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" on TV, and decided on Fiddler's Green's USN Sopwith Camel. I downscaled it to 1:72; a little fiddly in that size, but not too bad. I replaced the card struts (which were really thin at that scale) with shaped and painted toothpicks. To be REALLY accurate I should've scratched a hydrovane and some float bags, but just couldn't bring myself to care enough. Likewise, the rigging is only meant to be representational, not scale-accurate. It's enough for my sim;e tastes, and now I have a 1920's Camel to fly over the bootleggers in Prohibition Atlantic City.

Another nice FG model done. Always did like the Camel, even though it flew tail heavy and had other problems, it was one of the more successful biplanes of the war.

Thanks ya'll. It was a fun build.
Pete, I had to muffle the engine fx when my wife began to complain that she was missing dialog. Reproducing the spluttering of a Clerget rotary was a bit sloppy anyway! Wyvern Wyvern |
