Inspired by this thread, I printed out some US Navy planes, among which was a nice Helldiver. After putting some serious effort into the building, I found that the tail piece does not fit. The markings don't line up and the end that attaches to the mid section of the fuselage is too big. This is the aspect of building paper models that really kills it for me. I have a large number of non-finished models in my home, where I suddenly ran into a serious design mistake and a part did not fit.

Well, I didn't give up. Not just yet. I found out why the rear part is larger. But things still don't line up. If they did, the issue of the rear part being bigger would have been self explanatory. This little model is so close to being a gem...

By the way, Papermate and Sygrod are you doing more Navy planes in 1/200?

So... "Official Dumb Question™"
I have a 1/192 RC Carrier and need planes for her. Is there a (recommended) means of sealing/protecting models like these so they don't melt/distort when exposed to humidity a/o the occasional splash? |

Exposing to humidity and occasional splash or strong sunlight is a NO GO for paper models, be them aircrafts or anything else. The only thing you can do is to spray, paint or apply clear paint with UV protection all over them. Maybe some other experts on this forum can offer further advices.

A long time ago I made my one and only (so far) pukka paper model. Alright it was newspaper/papier mache sealed with fibre glass resin. The keel was a piece of steel plate with lead on the base. It sailed very well for a few weeks or so while I was waiting to join the army. My brother took it out but rather than the ponds I sailed it on took it straight onto the Thames and it was sadly lost with all hands. The models here are a credit to their builders and I am fortunate to see their construction and final result.

Thanks for the tips and advice.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled thread! (Sorry, wasn't trying to derail from the main topic). |

No problem selek7101 as the thread itself hasn't been active for quite a while.
