Hi Isaac,
The B-17 is my all-time favorite! I'm looking forward to seeing the upcomming build.

I'm sure that the others will do a great job constructing theirs, but yours is especially of interest to me as I know you personally and also your talents.

I'm currently on assignment in Minneapolis for 2 weeks; I missed the ice storm, but do have to contend with the balmy Minnesota weather and snow!

Best Regards,

I would think you have more snow and Ice in MN right now.

Did some more work on the plane. Today it was cutting out the cardstock formers and ribs. My hand hurts. The laser sets are really super savers when available.

Thanks

Isaac

Isaac,
Some information on the fuselage build. You are building the model
without interior so you don't need to follow the numerical sequence
as you would with the interior included. Following the numerical sequence
is only required for the interior parts to mesh with each other during
assembly. It's your choice. However the only part of the interior that
needs to be included is the cockpit floor. It is part of the structural
integrity.......Ron

Post The Fuselage

This is a conventional design using cylinders and cones ( just like the real thing ). So started assembling each. No issues here.

The order of the pieces being built is not important, as there is no interior. I started gluing the round bulkheads. Problem was noted with part 8 and bulkhead E. I decided to cut off the top piece, which will shape the upper assembly of the cockpit area. However, the diameter of part E is too small when assembled to the forward end of part 8.

I will have to correct it later ( unless I screwed up here Ron ). Then I will glue the upper piece of part E on top. Still work in progress.

I continued with the other pieces for now.

Short report so far.

Back to work

Isaac,
You need to cut out the area on part 8 which has tabs for gluing
the upper fuselage later. Then glue the former E in place at the
front. Also you do not need to make the lengthwise snips in the
connecting strips. The fuselage sections will slide together snugly
and give a good connection joint....Ron

Isaac,
I also noted you cut off the top of former E. That is a no no. Do
not modify parts just because you are doing it with no interior. You
need to make another Former E......Ron

You are right! I modified your build in this regard which is not the intent. It is too late though. But not a major deviation as it can be built per your instruction in that location.

Ron's B-17G Beta build by Isaac-dsc09226.jpg

I will conform from here on. I will probably build a new section with the correct Former later.

My build log continues next with my minor deviation on this former though ( Mia Culpa ).

Thanks

Isaac
