Thank you gents for the research on this. I'm now wondering if the dark color above the lower tail is discoloration from the bog.. the other stained areas have amazingly linear quality, but in a water "pool" that could occur. I have now a new question, is the interior green as in the Halinski? Some of the cockpit photos of zeros show a light gray cockpit? was green the standard color?

I think I've answered my own question on that one, it appears that mitsubishi produced zeros were green interior, nakajima gray. I'll stick with the colors of the kit unless there is reason to change (other than "artistic license" HA!) There are some interesting facts about the interior paint, but I think I'll go with halinski on this one.

Glen -- I recommend taking a look at this discussion in the J-Aircraft forum. As I read it, the most likely interior color for the Zero 21 is light blue. http://www.j-aircraft.org/smf/index.php?topic=4704.0

Don, most helpful, it seems interesting that the zero in some ways is as mysterious as it was in 1942.....I thank you again for your time and have found similar restoration images, not a dark green amoung them. Ok that is it then, light gray-blue interior, exterior as described earlier.

Going back to the photocopy paper on the first reference link, it also says that the plane interior had a 'blue coating'.

Yeah, how much blue? I guess some subjectivity still present, but I think will be fairly close color-wise, now all I have to do is build it!:D

Dan, I'd photoshopped the cockpit colors to gray-blue before I asked, so was glad I could use it ( I spent quite a while drawing outlines for the guages on the panel and they stand out real nicely), but was counting parts on the engine and each cylinder has 15 parts if I counted right. They are not very big either.

Yeah - that radial engine is a kicker. If I remember right, this build - http://forum.zealot.com/t145162/ has some nice hints for forming and assembly line building that radial engine (and is a nice build thread of this kit in general).

This is a great model, wow. The only problem with the engine is its size, the top cylinder has 6 parts and is 5mm across and high. That aside the parts fit really well.
