GPM Ki-100 Goshikisen

Ki-100 Goshikisen, Japanese Imperial Army Type 5 Single Seat Fighter, was the last and probably the best fighter aircraft put into production.
It started humbly as a bunch of Ki-61 Hien airframes sitting idle at Kawasaki plant without engines (B-29s took care of that), but since Japan desperately needed aircraft to defend its skies from B-29s, F6F, F4Us and P-51s such a waste couldn't last long.
Kawasaki engineers thought about adapting those airframes to accept radial Ha-112 Kinsei engine. Problem was solved by examining imported Fw-190A and what started as an emergency modification, turned out to be an outstanding fighter.
Not as sexy as Ki-84 or Ki-61 it had one huge advantage over them - Ha-112 engine was reliable and delivered the intended power every time pilot climbed into the cockpit.
Model published in 2005 by GPM under number 240 was designed by Lukasz Fuczek.
This is one of his fist designs, so don't judge his latest models based on this one, unless you will be impressed by it of course :D

Before anybody asks - answer is no, this model will not be available from GreMir.

Let's start with the cover...

Here is the result of Saturday and Sunday's work...
Frames require sanding to get them in but the skins fit without any problems.
Cockpit is rather simplistic and a little crude but I'm not really concerned with it as you can see on last two photos :D
I had to cut an opening in the forward former to allow pilot to fit inside.

Looks pretty good Mike, is this another pilot or the same guy placed in a new aircraft?

I'm delighted to see you building this one, Mike. I always like to see Japanese aircraft being built. Also, I have a copy of this one (part of my Troll stash) and hope eventually to build it, so I will be paying close attention to your build.

Based on your other models, this should be a very nice looking model when you are done.

Don

Model is finally starting to look like plane
I differed ere from the numerical sequence (I think.) and glued those lttle parts 21a into the vertical stab (22) to make it easier to form. Turns out that those parts 21a are about 1mm to short to rest on the former 21. The gap does not pose any problems since all this will be covered by the rest of the stabilizer.
White filed in front of the stabilizer will be covered by the fillet, after horizontal stabs are in place.
Now construction shifts towards the front, but this will come tomorrow.

Still going nicely forward and the only gripe I migt have are the formers. Every one has to be sanded down to fit.
Skins fit without the need for even slightest adjustments and so far it is trully pleasant build.
