The control surfaces
The control surfaces
Conventional 1 piece wrap around skin design for the rudder, ailerons and elevators/engine exhaust diverters ( looks like vectored thrust ). The inner core is card with edge ribs for the shape. The plane is done now. Pics here Cheers Isaac |

The trailer.
The trailer.
I like the simple box cross section. The laser cut card formers make it clean, rigid and easy to glue. I got to the point where it is almost done, minus the wheels and details. Pics here of the plane on the partially done trailer. Just waiting for the wheels Cheers Isaac |

It makes no difference how many top secret war toys they had. They were evil and they did horrible things everywhere they went. At the end they got defeated big time. On the good side, all that technology got implemented in the 50's and 60's by the allies and the Soviets too. To me these projects are a technical fascination. See you in Indy, If I finish the wheels, I will bring this bird. Isaac |

Trailer is done
Added the details to the trailer such as the compressed air bottle and the lines ( chose vivid colors so it stands out ). I used a wood dowel which I sanded the edges round instead of the paper version ( looks better ). Added soft green wire and completed that detail. The wheels are plywood pieces that I turned on my mini lathe ( you could use a small drill as well for this task ). After sanding it, I painted it flat black ( looks better than a gray color that was most likely in use then ). The wheel axles are wood toothpicks cut to length. Perfect fit. The nose wheel fork has a soft wire in the paper to give it stiffness and support. All the wheels are assembled. The trailer is now complete.
Here is the plane on the trailer. She is ready for the Indianapolis show coming up this Saturday. If I finish the schlepper it would be a bonus. Cheers Isaac |

Working on the schlepper
I have to admit that the only vehicle I have ever done in paper is a tank. At least I get it. But these little vehicles that look like a cross between a golf cart and a motorcycle are testing my limits . The drawings are very detailed, so that is helpfull, but some of the parts require a microscope. I know I will get my hands full with the wheels . My hat is off to you guys building small vehicles.
Anyhow, back to work. Pics later, I got to finish the little devil by Friday night. Cheers Isaac |
