IAF repaints at Fiddler's Green
Fiddler's Green has a couple of new re-paints in the versions folders. The all yellow 1948 Israeli "Texan" and a 1948 Egyptian "Texan" are available in the trainer category. Also available is the 1949 Israeli P-51 Mustang in the collections, I think. And finally in the light aircraft a 1948-49 Beechcraft used by the Israelis as a ground attack aircraft during the War of Independence. The so called "Bonanza Bombers" were smuggled in from South Africa in 1948 and hastily converted from civil to military aircraft. One was destroyed by an Egyptian Spitfire while on the ground, but the other two stayed in IAF service until the late 1950s. And again in the trainer category is the red 1949 Sterman. It is one of two that are still airworthy today, and one of the original Stermans purchased by the IAF in 1949. For folks interested in early Israeli Air Force warplanes you may find these interesting.

Hmmmmm...... the picture still credits Rick Thomson for the RCAF color scheme.
Do you know who did the IAF re-paint? john |

Yep, forgot to change that. The RCAF had the best base color of the "Versions" for the FG P-51.

Mustang color
The pre 1967 and the Six Day war color scheme was the Brown and Blue over light gray underside. This FG Mustang does not appear to have a blue enough color. Maybe it is the scan.
Here is a depiction of a more correct blue Anyhow, it is a simple model and the colors are attractive for this scale. Isaac |

Yes the post War of Independence Mustangs had a real nice blue on them. (I like the blue and brown contrast) The couple of Mustangs that the Israelis managed to smuggle into Israel in 1949 were painted with left over RAF paint, mostly browns and greens, so that is what I went with for this one.

A slight correction
The IAF Mustangs were ex Swedish AF aircraft ( not RAF ) They were delivered in natural metal. Not sure if they were ever the brown and green ( Spitfires were brown and green, as well as silver and one in black.
I am interested in the Bonanza colors, can you post that kit picture? Thanks Isaac |
