Finished up the Model last night...
and she's Tail heavy!

lol
won't stand on three wheels without assistance.
So remember to add some nose weight!

I recut the parts for the side inlets,
but installing them into the fuselage is very awkward.
It would be easier to do while assembling the fuselage sections.

The inlet vent needs to be tapered toward the front
and there is an extra fold line or marking on the perimeter part that doesn't line up with anything.
The part definitely needs a redraw.

Gear is simple, and easy to install, however i recommend a wire or stick insert
to strengthen the small gear support and improve the attachment point to the fuselage.

And I was a little confused on the fit of the Nose Gear Door,
and it is not installed exactly as it should be.

There doesn't appear to be Main gear doors, so I cut some from blank cardstock.

Tail closed up easily, and the engine exhaust tube attaches.
Horizontal wing needs a little trimming to get it to fit flat, and as you can
see, I still haven't got it quite right.

Most panel lines and details line up fairly well, but it wouldn't hurt to tweak things a bit.

Colours are bright and the design is simple, but effective.
All in all, an entertaining little build.
Thanks Murph!

That looks great! I remember seeing a Bud Light version when I was a kid.

Thanks for the build, pics and suggestions Dave. I'll fix things and re upload it. As for the gear doors, none of the pics I have show any main gear doors. Even the one that showed the main gear.

Nice work Dave. What is the scale of the kit? What is the built up wingspan?
Most references show the wingspan of the BD-5J to be 17 feet. Now that Dave
has built a nice full size one, I wonder about doing the mini version?

The Bumblebee is 1:16. The BD-5J is 1:23. It has about a 6 inch wingspan.

I tried to match the two models together by eye, remembering when I had seen the two actual planes together...guess my eye needs some adjustment.

Every picture I've looked at, the landing gear doors are different. Open, closed, one piece, two piece, 3 piece, four.

Maybe the gear doors vary depending on the model or the builder.

We'll do the same for the cardmodel. Arrange the gear doors how you feel like :P

Nifty little plane. Looks like it would be a handful to fly. I saw one fly at an airshow once and it was pretty cool to see that little thing do a low pass over the runway.
