Here's the other half of the story behind the crashed flying tiger.

At church one Sunday one of the ladies my mom was talking to
came over to me after the service and said. "I heard you like to make
model airplanes." (She's from England, with a British accent.)

Which I replied, yes all types...old ones, modern jets etc. She then said
"I bought one during a trip to England once for my son a long time ago.
He never touched it and left it behind when he went away to college.
It has never been built. I'll bring it the next time I see you."

Anyways, to my surprise and delight it was an old Maly Modelarz. The
pages were old and yellowed. The colors of the RAF tan and brown
faded from the years to a yellowish/orange.

So what I did was scan the pages, redrew them in CAD and scaled
them to 1/72 or a least close to it. Then made a PDF and put
on the Nationalist 23rd pursuit group's markings.

If you notice closely I forgot to put the tiger with the wings on the
sides below the cockpit. It should look like my Avatar Icon.

Anyways the formers are way off from the skin shape and will
need some correcting. But what can you say, the original drawings
were probably hand done in Poland some 35 years ago. Besides
there are some better P-40's out there, especially at Chris's
Ecard models. Reasonably priced too.

Still planning to redo it in 1/48 scale with gear down this time in "Bombarc"
style, (one of our other members here.) Using layers of chipboard to
get that "Balloon tire look." Might try my hand a doing a cockpit
interior too. Sometime in the near future.

Hi,

Hope everyone has had a great Christmas! It has been a while since posting and I thought I'd share my reprint of the P-40. I checked my drawing after printing it out on a HP printer at my local public library and found that it's close to 1/48 but not quite.

I also have included my distractions over the past year. It was last Christmas that I printed out a the P-51 in the Tuskegee colors. Then I did Bruno's Lockheed "Connie" with Pan Am markings which didn't come out that great.

Then some 1/76 and 1/72 scale armor. A BPI M-10, Michal Tichy's Comet, a Humber from the ABC diorama, and this past fall the Bren carrier and Crusader from Micromodels. The last two to see how papermodels were done some 70 years ago. The Crusader MkII from Micromodels has quite a few errors so I would recommend going with the PTA one which is more authentic. The Bren is not too bad.

Over the holiday I got the fuselage assembled. Then the tail and rear stabilizers attached. Moving on to the wings and the propeller.

Looks good, Jeff. Makes me want to get on with the project of building ROC fighters of the 1937-45 Sino-Japanese War period.

Some more photos of the larger P-40. The main wheels and tail wheel are tacked on with putty for the photo shoot. I have it hanging from the ceiling with the wheels stored for safekeeping.
