Good job, Bill! Vacuum forming is really the way to go.

Golden Bear, as much as I would love to get into vacuum forming, I don't have the time or money to get much deeper into this stuff. My main tool for forming the canopy other then clay was a candle. My wife isn't too fond of me spending hours in the basement either. Something about a 10 month old that's learning to walk :p

Oooooh. Sorry! I just saw the material and the finished piece and made an incorrect assumption. It is very nice though and it is neat to see what can be done WITHOUT vacuum forming. Nice work.

That's further into vacuum forming than I plan on getting. It just doesn't appeal to me. I'll work with cellophane, or purchased canopies where I can. Just me though - I definitely admire you guys who manage to do such nice jobs making your own.

Dan, making my own is a way to appease the mrs. by spending less $. She did comment while I was making the canopy (attempt #4) that she thought I was nuts for spending that much time on "a silly model". I just said yup, and kept working.:D

Ouch! Did you point out how much time is spent on makeup in the morning?! Wait...no...don't go there! Don't go there!

Best,
Bruce

I would have, but with the whole newish mother thing, she's nearly faster than I am in the morning.

Thanks Barry! BTW, I did build your Albatross. But, I wasn't familiar with the bulkhead butt joint thing, and quite frankly, I turned it into a junker. I would post pics, but it's quite embarrassing. I'm going to reattempt it sometime here this summer I hope. I really liked it though. I now know what I need to do differently, so i'll chalk it up as a lesson learned.

Willy, you are doing a great job on this bird!! Quite frankly, I don't go much for Fiddler's Green models, but honestly your is pointing to a very fabulous model.
