Mitsubishi XC-2, 1/144 scale.

Quick and dirty (build it during the weekend) of the Mitsu XC-2 cargo jet prototype. It is available here and in 2 scales (1/100 and 1/144) and 2 paint schemes.

Fun build and even though it has no formers (and no instructions besides the PDO) it does capture the lines of the bird well.

I do have a follow-up question though. I found a picture of another Japanese prototype plane, the ShinMaywa US-2 flying boat which has a similar paint job. Now I kinda want that one as a paper model, but I have had little luck getting any kind of blueprint of it. And if possible, any other plane with a similar paint job, like this one. I think I saw one at ecards (the "Rob", iirc), but not any others (also excluding the T-2 CCV i am still building).

You did a great work. Very clean result.

I've to say I don't like very much the dotted lines in this kind of models.

Regards
Alcides

The Japanese Coastguard site used to have a ShinMeiwa flyingboat.
That may prove a useful starting point.
If all else fails, a Be12 in the colourscheme you like may be the quickest way to go.

Congratulations on an unusual build, neatly executed.

Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell.

The one you mean is the US-1, available here, right? Unfortunately, it's 2.5d... And Gary's Be12 might be similar, it has a different shape.

My Apologies Legion, you are correct, that US-1 is the aircraft I had intially thought of.
And yes, while I realise the Be12 is a rather different shape, it seemed it "might" stand-in till a more suited model was found.
The only other idea I have regarding the US-1 on that site you linked is to build the engines as 3D by adapting those from a C130, for example, since they would be near-enough to the same in that scale, and if my recall is correct, the US-1 used license-built versions of the same engines in any case. And, on that site, the US-1 shown does seem to have a 3D fuselage, though to my eyes it looks a little thinner than it perhaps should. It seemed to me that only the engines and stabiliser floats were 2.5 D.

Sorry I am not of more help.

Kind and Respectful Regards Legion, Uyraell.

It's not just the 2.5d bit that makes it different, the US2/US1A Kai has a slightly different hull too. Which brings me to the specs of it. It is capable of landing in seas (and oceans!) with waves up to 3 meter. That is mostly because of the hull, which has several flanges and plates that reduce spray and wakes. It also has a very large range and can be used for a lot of jobs. Like a 15ton fire-fighter, ASW, rescue, passenger plane, cargo plane, surveillance...

Making a model of the XP-1 should be easier, it has a lot in common with the Orion and the XC-2. Tekzo has a free Orion, might do something with that one.

Having looked at the images, I quite see your point my friend.

I wish you every success with this (to me at least) unusual project.
I shall certainly be following with much interest, being that I was intrigued by the Shin Meiwa family of flying boats when younger.

Kind and Respectful Regards Legion, Uyraell.

I took another look at the XP-1, but it has a different fuselage as well. Not perfectly round like the P3-c. And I looked, but couldn't find any blueprints of either the SU-1a Kai or the XP-1...

Nice, but too bad it doesn't have landing gear.

Having it gear down would kinda ruin the lines and 'grace' this plane displays. It does come with a high stand. And I might hang it somewhere.
