Dc-8

Does anyone know of a Douglas DC-8 card model?

United Airlines livery preferred, but anything will do.

Thanks!

There are only old dutch modelkits which are not for sale anymore. Only Ebay or similar. Brands: Emsco and Veritas.
And there is a private design I know of. Not for sale too...

Just a humble suggestion, but why not adapt a DC9/MD80 back into it's original DC8 configuration?
Other than the DC9 having a longer fuselage, the T tail becoming again a conventional empennage, and the wing mounted engines of the DC8 there is little difference between the two, since the original DC9 prototype was a modified DC8 in the first place. For a model, the engines off a Boeing 707 of the same year would be sufficient, as there is little discernable difference B707 to DC8 between the external appearance of the mounting pylons on the wing underside.

Just a humble suggestion, I hope it helps.

Kind and Respectful regards, Uyraell.

Yes, it is a some kind of way to do the DC-8, but what about: airfoils, cross sections, landing gear details???
From my experience with B-737, 'old schoold' designing without those details will be a bit challenging
Possible, but challenging - that's what I want to say.

The only usefull drawings I found were here:
http://www.aim72.co.uk/DC-8-50-side.jpg
http://www.aim72.co.uk/DC-8-50-plan.jpg
3D CAD
http://www.brazmodels.com/3D%20CAD/3D%20CAD.htm
The engines could be the CFM-56 from KC-135R - that's the good news.

Anyway, anybody like to design this beauty?

Believe me, If I only knew how to work a design system, I'd give it a shot, but Uyraell has a great tip there. If someone designs this bird, I'll gladly wait...

I am sure lots would love to. someone seems to love doing it in google sketchup if you look someone calle 707 has a good few. no idea if we can ask the guy for permission to use it to design a card model but what can i lose. do last i tried to do one from sketchup for a car after the guy saying sure you can Martin, it was a right mess to sort out and never got it to do the pepruka at all at all. If someone else asks it be great as i am used to been told NO McDonnell Douglas DC-8-70 [BLANK] by 707 - Google 3D Warehouse

If we could only find somebody patient with a spare time...
Side wiev from 'aim72', cross sections from 'braz', engines - I can find from KC-135R, the airfoil and landing gear only really bothers me...
I am busy with B-737 main gear, BAe-146 on a side, but I can offer a support to anyone who would like to take this challenge.

Any volunteer?

Airfoil cross section is only two or thee NACA profiles in difference, and so not important at anything under about 1:32 scale. Nor is the wing planform vastly different. Only the location points along the length of the fuselage tube are different.
Landing gear details are common to both DC8 and DC9, again not an issue in small scale. There is a difference in the size of the main wheels, but again not noticeable in small scale. The oleos themselves are (if my recall is correct) sufficiently similar.

Again though, just a humbly offered suggestion.

Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell.
