Ouch! Sorry to see that, if nothing else you have some very nice photographs of the detailed engine you built even if it didn't stay in that state

I do know that when I did the Gee Bee racer, I had to wiggle the radial engine quite a bit to fit it into the cowling. It ended up only fitting in one direction, so it was lucky that I kept the engine separate and was then able to orient the cowling with the engine in it to fit the plane. Funny how those tiny little differences in cutting and shaping can end up compounding into larger issues. I'm sure no matter what the resolution is, you'll end up with a very nice model based on progress posted

Nice recovery - glad you didn't give up after the mishap.

Sorry to hear about the accident, but as others have pointed out, you recovered nicely. Glad to see that as this build is really holding my interest - the radial has really turned into a fantastic build all by itself.

Spats

The spats were a headache, because they have compound curves. The kit parts employ the 'flower petal' technique for making these. I have seen these done convincingly by other modelers, but the one spat I tried looked horrible. I decided to make scratch parts from plywood. Here's the result:

That IS a nice recovery Chris. A beautiful build - you caused me to jump to Kartonbau to look for more. For radial engines I now routinely cut the cylinders a little short to account for build "creep" that occurs. It seems nearly impossible to avoid this problem. My worst was with the engine for the Halinski Val which took a similar long period of building and then just didn't want to quite fit.

Excellent work!
Looking at hose photos I'm starting to think about building the P.11c I have in my stash :D
