The French text for the rear underside of the cowling, part C10, means (I think): "This cut-out is not made until/after final assembly".

Jim, notice that the two photos depict the same F-PPZE aircraft, the model and full-size. Rather nice.

Incidentally, note that the Dalotel was flown from the rear seat, when no passenger was aboard.

They may even be the same aircraft - F-PPZE sold to England, and registered as G-BILA?

They may well be the same aircraft since only one of the type has been built.
It's often the case with light aircraft. The pilot is always necessary, the passenger is optional. Putting the passenger near the CG saves trim changes between the 2 states.

Thanks for clearing that up. Only one built - kind of interesting piece of information if you look at all the RC models of it that has been built (must be hundreds).

Note here the small opening at the back underside of the cowling, just like the four openings for the exhaust pipes. Which is what today's discussion started off with.

Thanks Leif! These photos and the drawing are great - in particular the first black and white one. It seems to show the first exhaust configuration.

I've cut C23 off and printed a new one. It looks just right on top of the cowl now. I'll worry about the exhaust as I get further along and improvise if necessary...

It's such a pretty little plane. Hope my model does it justice.

I was thinking about this while cutting out wheels and then eating dinner. That picture of the plane with the pilot really struck me. When I used to build plastic models one of my favorite things was painting the pilots and all those 1/35 scale Tamiya soldiers. I've decided I need a pilot for this plane, so I'm going to sculpt one. I guess it will delay completion, but a 1960's French civilian in the plane would look very good I think. If I get ambitious, I may even give him a girl friend.

Oh well, back to cutting wheels and I'll figure out the figure's armature once I get to the cockpit.

That is a beautiful idea, and I look forward very much to your attempt. Pilot (and passenger) figures are sorely missing items in paper model building. I'm sure it's pretty difficult, but someone's got to break new ground. Sincerely, good luck! - L.

Here's today's progress. I finished the wheels. I guess I'm still at that early stage of paper modeling where I'm frequently stunned at what can be made out of paper. Still not close to perfect and hopefully the next batch will be better, but they still look so neat. Little paper wheels, what could could be cooler?

So far I've got 133 parts in this thing, I'm curious how many parts total. Well, the wings will be the next step.

Those main gear wheels are wonderful, particularly the way you accomplished the rims and "spokes". I don't think I've ever seen that done actually, although Gil Russell has been down that road from a design point of view. - L.
