FG's A40 Flying Tank

Actually I could have posted this one in a couple places, However it was designed to fly!!!!

The A40 Flying Tank. The Russians actually built this and it actually flew once as a glider. Evidently the engines on the tow plane were overheating and they had to cut the glider loose. It landed in a rough field and as the story goes they dropped the wings and drove the tank back to the field. Read much more about it a Fiddlers Green.

A fun build I build it so I could detach the wings and there is instructions included.

'Twas a brave soul indeed who went up in that thing- must have had some wheels on it to get off the ground!

Great job on this model. It is a very interesting concept. Charlie C. might be able to shed some light on this, but the only think I can think of for "must have had some wheels on it to get off the ground" is that it either had a set of small wheels OR they disconnected the final drive so that the tracks and drive sprocket could turn freely without the henderance of the engine.

The tracks were dis-engaged on the ground for take off utilizing a towing aircraft.
Then, prior to landing, the engine was started and the tracks then engaged and
brought up to speed to aid the landing.*

*If I'm not mistaken. It's happened.

I keep trying to go to FG to take a look at this model, but can't connect. It's been a couple of months since I was last able to get to their page. I've tried with 3 different browsers, no luck with any. Anyone else having this problem?
